Caffeine/Alcohol........... - Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

I know these are the two biggest "no-no's", and the hardest for me to stay off. I used one cup of coffee to help with depression in the morning; now I'm depressed.

Used one drink before dinner to relax & take the edge off the day's stress.

Has anyone been able to go back on these two after having been on Protonics or other PPI's?

If not, what are you drinking in the mornings? I can't even drink herbal teas.

I know we're all different in terms of the severity of our condition; one person said it took her a few weeks just to eat more normally; another said 4 months; and some have said "NEVER"!!

Whatta frustrating condition this is.

I had an acid reflux problem last fall. Someone recommended using a Probiotic. I'm using the most powerful that I could find which is 15 strains/35 Billion Microorganisms per two tablets. I take two each morning after breakfast. I do have caffeine and alcohol without a problem. No matter what I eat it's not a problem. You could also consider using Kefir (cousin of the yogurt) which is a Probiotic. I also take this and drink it out of the bottle. Comes plain or in flavors.

I had to go off coffee and tea for a few weeks when I first started on Nexium.. I just drank water... now I am able to drink both again. And I don't have problems with wine or liquors..unless a drink has something like pineapple jiuce.. then I am in pain!

Are you still on that PPI? And can you tell me if you had "gastritis"?
