Have any of you had the EGD done. I had one 1 1/2 years ago and didn't have any problems. I just had another one done on 4/20. I have alot of burning from my esophagus down to my stomach. I am taking Prilosec OTC and it seems to help for awhile. It feels like I am on fire. Is this a common thing? Has anyone else had these kind of problems? Thanks for your help.
yes laura! exactly - after both my endoscopies i had SEVERE burning pain in my throat down to my tummy that i didn't have prior to that. it eventually went away but everything hurt to swallow especially acid foods. i was in so much pain after the procedures. hang in there and ride it out. it will go away. mine took a couple months. i don't know if its from a lubricant they use on the tube, or the esoph. getting scraped, or an allergy to the scope material or irritation to the spinchter valves or what - but gosh i hear you. major hurt. it will get better though.
I am finally having an upper endoscopy first week of may. The problem: Now i am having doubt going thru with it. What happen after the procedure? and biopsy of the stomach, they said they take a small piece, how can they cut a small piece of the stomach and there might not be bleeding.
or perhaps i am just paranoid and scare. i can't take the chance to be sick now, i have grad school coming up.
hi john, don't be scared, but you may have some discomfort afterwards. it's a necessary test to see what is going on so the benefits certainly outweigh the risks -which are very very minimal. i had several biopsies done and none of them bled. its just the smallest of skin scrapings that they do. for whatever reason, my throat and esophagus was really sore after the procedure, but many people's aren't. if your's is, just know it will get better again.
