I just want to know when doctor use a fiberscope to examine stomach, what is this scope correct name?

I did it last year and I got a report said that I did “ upper endoscopy” ,
I also saw that some patients called it “ endoscope”
But recently I read a material said,
Endoscopes have been developed for many parts of the body. Each has its own name,depending on the part of the body it is intended to investigate, such as,
gastroscope—to examine the stomach.

So, I want to make sure what I need to call it

Some doctors call it an upper endoscopy and some call it an EGD (esophagogastroduodenoscopy). They are the same thing, which is scoping of the entire upper GI system (esophagus, stomach and duodenum).

Endoscopy is actually a generic term. "Endo" means "inside", that's all. And of course "scope" means "look". So indeed, it could be a device to look at anything inside your body.

To be specific, I think the term "esophagogastroduodenoscopy" (EGD) is the best for this particular type of endoscopy.

It also depends on what country you are from I have noticed the people from England call it something else and here in NJ I'v call it an upper endoscopy.

I'm in England, and say upper endoscopy. I also say Tomaaahhtoe , alex - just wish I dare eat one
