Pepto Bismol vs. Mylanta for Acid Reflux or Ulcer

Hi,

I've noticed that people have been recommending Mylanta or some other forms of magnesium hydroxide to treat symptoms of acid reflux and stomach ulcers. People have said it works but made no mention about its laxative effects. I'd like to try it but I'm afraid of getting diarrhea from it. I'm already losing weight from my stomach pain and don't want to lose anymore.

Does diarrhea occur after taking Mylanta? If so, how severe is it? Also, is Pepto Bismol just as effective for heartburn and ulcers? People don't seem to mention Pepto Bismol as much.

Thanks,

Ken

you won't get uncontrolled diarrhea meaning you won't need to run to the washroom. I used it for a few months years ago. you might go more frequently and when take a dump your stool will be looser (less solid). it's okay. it's not too bad. it didn't make my quality of life worse or anything by using it. you only notice it only when you are sitting on the toilet.

I used Gaviscon after that, that causes constipation, but i haven't noticed it.

PeptoBismol, they say is good, but the price is VERY expensive if you are a frequent user. I think you get much more from Gaviscon or Mylanta

Mylants will help you with constipation.... where as Pepto controls nausea and loose stools. If I had to pick one for acid I would probably pick Mylants, where as I would pick Pepto if I had nausea too.
