I woke up this morning and felt an uncomfortable tightness in my upper chest and throat.
I had trouble swallowing for most of the morning and it has finally subsided some this evening.
I burn in my stomach and especially around my belly button area.
Anything I eat or drink makes it burn.
I burn occassionally, some mild to moderate burning in my upper throat but not very often. The burn in my stomach is constant. When I wake up in the morning I feel fine but as soon as I eat or drink anything there it goes, the awful burning!
What can I eat or drink that is soft or easy to eat that will keep up my nourishment?
I start a new job Tuesday and by the first of June I'll finally have insurance again where I can go back to a gastroenterologist.
Right now my upper chest area it feels like my esophagus is narrowed and trying to swallow anything feels like its straining to go down.
I've never had this happen before.
I have Prevacid and Prevacid Dissolvable tablets that my doctor prescribed for heartburn but they make me feel worse.
The dissolvables make my throat and esophagus burn on the way down and I have trouble swallowing pills or anything solid so I don't take pills.
I have some over the counter Zantac store brand that are pretty small pills with active ingredient Rantadine I could take though if I had to.
Right now I get relief from drinking hot tea with lemon and ginger or peppermint and liquid Mylanta and Gaviscon. I have found Gaviscon gives the best longest relief. The hot liquid from the tea feels so good on my esophagus going down.
I usually drink a cup of tea and take Gaviscon before going to bed.
Does anyone relate to how I am feeling? I'd love to hear from you.
I relate to how you're feeling, but sadly I don't have any answers. I have had these feelings for almost a year now. I too, drink herb tea mainly for the warming sensation. Gaviscon does nothing for me. I was so afraid this morning when I woke, because my heart was skipping and fluttering from the pressure (if it is pressure?) inside my chest and gullett. My cat was in bed with me and I cried into his fur and told him I was dying (usually poor hubby hears this, but he was away) My whole upper body hurts and my spine too. I'm on double dose Nexium with Ranitidine at night and the symptoms seem to worsen each day. I keep thinking that they missed a cancer on the scope, or that I will turn out to have pancreatic cancer. I can't accept these awful symptoms can be gerd because they are non-stop.

I too feel the same way, and like K said, its so hard to accept that all this is from Reflux. I have had the tight throat sensation along with breathing problems for 7 mnths and it just came from out of the blue, one day I was fine and the next day I just woke up with this terrible feeling and it never went away
Just know your not alone and this board is a great support.

It sounds like the acid is backing up into your throat. I used to have exactly that with that awful burning in my stomach however I was diagnosed with acid stomach, acid reflux, ulcers etc.
If you do get insurance one of the best atntiacid.s that is relatively new and needs a prescription is called Aciphex. The cost is over 200 for 30 with insurance.
Zantac works quite well when you take prescription strength and give it one week while still taking Malox and such until the zantac can start the healing. 300 mg a day is the prescription strength. If you take 175mg in am and then again in pm you should be fine until you get insurance.
There is another natural product that will work great with no more antacids at all. IF YOU HAVE ACID REFUX, ULCERS, ETC.. You must make sure it is not anything else. There is a Vitamin made by Standard Process. You can find them on Amazon or I can sell them for quite a discount. Look for “Zypan” and “Gastrex”. It is an organic product cold processed from foods and bovine brain an enzyme. Take 2 Zypan every time you eat any protein. Any at all. So you must carry it with you. The Gastrex is more like a quick fix like Malox but much stronger and will stop the burning. You cannot stay on Gastrex forever as it it’s purpose is to help you until your metabolism gets realigned to proper digestion. People over 30 have a harder time breaking down protein. We tend to eat a lot protein in our diet and this throws off our digestion process. The Zypan will absolutely get your body back into normal digestion within 3 -4 weeks and you do not ever have to take those products that takes acid away. Theory by my Homeopathic “MD”, she also a medical doctor She does not believe in anti acids and it has worked for me now for over 8 years. I do though understand we all get impatient and want a fix now. The Gastrex helped a lot until my body got realigned.

That sounds awful. I hope you get help. It does not sound like acid reflux or ulcers etc. I would get it checked out by an "INTERNIST' that specializes in Womens Health. There are many things women get that men do not. I have had some weird stuff and only my Woman specialist could go right to it. Good Luck
Yep, had those same symptoms jumped out at me out of the blue over a year ago. Turned me into practically a cripple overnight. The worst was the breathing problems and tight throat. Been to all kinds of specialists since then, respiratory docs, Internal medicine, allergist, ear/nose/throat. Well i found out I has a nasal abnormality which explains why the nasal congestion slowly creot up on me. But this acid reflux thing, doesn't go away. Been off the ppi's for 7 months now. They don't do much good, hardly notice any difference. But it helps if you change your diet.
I get seomthing vary similar except mine is not quite tight but more of a discomfort that goes across the ches into shoulder and up the neck. Wakes me out of a sound sleep sometimes.
