I saw my dr a couple of days ago for something totally unrelated to GERD / reflux / heartbrn, whatever you want to call it.
Anyway, my dr wasn't sure what to do about the health prob I saw him for so started discussing my other health probs.
For one, I'm iron deficienct -
Iron = 4umol/l (13 - 35)
Transferrin = 3.5g/L (2.0-3.6)
Iron Binding capacity = 88umol/l (45 - 76)
Iron saturation = 5% (15 - 46)
Feirrtin = 6ug/l (15-180) - nb a month ago it was 26ug/l....
Haemaglobin = 10.6 (12 - 16)
And number two - I regularly get flu like symptoms, atm 1-2 times a week. Fever (38C + sometimes up to 39.6C) and bone pain - d/t be admitted to hosp soon to have more tests done for that...
Anyway, he thinks that a this could be why I've been so ill for the last 4, nearly 5 months or maybe d/t the reflux..... I'm not so sure, had probs with iron deficiency anaemia yrs ago and was never affected by it.
So anyway, he's put me on nexium and is now organising me to have an endoscopy, there was bronchospy mentioned too, only b/c the reflux tends to exacerbate my asthma.
I've had heartburn/reflux for 5-6 years now. For a long time I was treating myself with mylanta up to 5 times a day - it didn't get rid of the reflux but did have a soothing effect on my oesophagus. Last yr I was put on somac, finished that and never got a repeat prescription and just sort of put up with the reflux most days. Now am taking nexium.
To my question. If I've been able to deal with it for so long, why now does it have to be taken so seriously by my dr?
