Symptom?

To anyone who has been diagnosed with Acid Reflux.......Can you tell me if having a constant bad taste in your mouth is a symptom of Acid Reflux? No matter what I eat, it leaves a horrible aftertaste that never goes away. I acutally want to puke sometimes because the taste is so bad.

Re: Symptom?

Hi, What sort of taste? For me it is bitter - like bile. Even a cuppa tastes bitter to me these days.

Re: Symptom?

All kinds of different tastes. Bitter would be one but it just depends on what I eat or drink. It doesn't taste like bile though.

Re: Symptom?

If you can taste what you have eaten, you COULD have reflux - with or without acid. Have you had any testing done or are you on any meds?

Re: Symptom?

I'm taking meds 4-5 different meds at this time. One to help with the acid reflux. Just started it so I haven't seen any improvement yet.

Re: Symptom?

Well, I hope they help you. Sadly, myself and many here notice that although the acid is reduced, reflux still occurs. If this happens you need Manometry/24 hr ph tests for motility and acid. If you read through the posts here, you will see how difficult and frustrating these horrible symptoms are.
If you DO still get non-acid reflux it won't cause as much structural damage, but can still cause uncomfortable symptoms. I don't think the acid can be totally reduced, because in my case I can taste 'vinegar' all of the time.
My personal view is that acid blocking is like putting on a plaster...we need to find out what we are masking!
Good luck
Kim
