GERD sufferers, go along with me, I will tell you why later.
Before I give you information I would like to know the following.
Where do you reside i/e Northwest, Canada, Northeast, South etc. Or State would be even better.
How much direct sun rays do you get per day, and what percent of your body is exposed?
Do you use sunburn lotion SPF type?
What time of the day do you get the direct sun?

I think I know where you're going with this. Maybe it does play a part. My problems started early winter and has improved since we've started having warmer weather. Also made to a trip to the beach in Florida in early May. To answer your questions.

Deportes - very close to your location. I get sun almost all year round except for a few rain days. On my arms, legs, and face/neck. Use 15 or 30 and sometimes none depending on the intensity of the sun. Anytime per day, morning, noon, or late afternoon. Don't know where your going with this so tell us.

Pittsburgh PA
I now get 1-2 hours of sun a day with sunscreen (playing outside with my daughter).
My problems with reflux started in April and I've had more sun each day since then.

You know....
Interestingly enough, all 3 of my trips to the ER happened in the dead of winter, DEC/Jan, when I don't get much sun, live in Ohio. My wife mentioned that she thought some of my problems were mental related, ie winter-blues. /shrug
I might try supplementing Vit D during the winter months....
