I agree with with you and think it is a wise idea to try to solve the problem with diet and lifestyle changes first if possible. But I realize there are situations and cases where it is not possible to correct without using acid altering medications. There are also many cases where the problem doesn't seem to respond to any treatment!!!!!!! Any medications that lower the acid in your stomach could possibly increase your risk of osteoporosis. The PPIs are probably the biggest offender since they suppress the acid for a longer period of time. Many minerals require high levels of acid to be efficiently absorbed. Supplementing with Calcium citrate, Magnesium Citrate and vitamin D3should help ward off osteoporsis. It is also believe by many that Chelated Minerals are more easily absorbed.
