My ENT thinks I have LPR and I am taking Prevacid and Xantac. I have allergies and chronic post nasal drip.

I have had a never ending post nasal drip since I was little I need to know this one thing to possibly determine what exactly is going on.

If I had chronic post nasal drip ever since I was little that is constantly going down into my stomach 24/7 will it cause stomach problems or GERD.

Is there actually EVIDENCE of this. Have studies been done that actually prove this? I really need to know so when I go back to my ENT we can treat this properly.

Post nasal drip is one of the symptoms of LPR. I would never have guessed that since I always associated it with allergies or sinus infections. I do think that many people with LPR also suffer from allergies but the post nasal drip can definately be coming from the acid. I have heard that your body produces more phlegm and saliva to protect itself from the acid. I see it as another annoying symptom I have to put up with! I know that when it's really bad it can upset my stomach. I try not to swallow it but I can't always help that.

if that is true, can someone go into detail and explain how and why the body creates more mucous and saliva because of acid? Acid is in the stomach and the throat so what kind of protection would the mucous and saliva do.

Is it possible for acid to go that far up even into the nose? Wouldn't you feel it?

Maybe the post nasal drip is blocking the acid from going too far up in the throat?

Hi & BUMP!

I would like to know the answer to that question also. I use Nexium and most of the time it works. But, if I eat the wrong thing at the wrong time, here comes the chest pain!

Like now - I ate beef at 8:30 pm. My additional med, along with the Nexium, are up to 4 Pepcid Completes, sitting up very straight, for acouple of hours. Also, when I take my nexium in the morning, I take it 30 min. to 1 hr, before eating or drinking anything except water!

I hope this helps and that someone has the answer to the other questions.
