Barium Swallow results

I had the barium swallow done on Monday and my dr. office called today to make a follow up appointment to go over the results. I, of course, panicked and asked if I could be told the results over the phone because I could not wait till next week to find out. The nurse told me that the test was normal and the dr. wanted to discuss what to do next. While I am relieved that there was nothing found, I also find it hard to believe that I am "normal"! I feel absolutely awful so much of the time .

Is there anyone who has had normal test results only to continue having problems? What steps did your dr. take next? I'd appreciate any input.

Thanks

Re: Barium Swallow results

mine were normal except for a minor incidence in the lower esophagus upon swallowing applesauce. I continued my twice a day PPI's (going on 3.5 months now)...I'm at maybe 60-70% depending on the day/if I eat correctly. How long have you been on meds. Give it time!!!! I literally could not eat for two months without panicking and thinking I was choking. It is a really long arduous process, but I am feeling loads better.

The barium swallow and upper GI series are very limited in what they can detect. I had the full upper GI series and it was perfectly normal. The next step most likely would be a upper endoscopy. With this they can see the condition of the tissue and take a sample biopsy if they see something.
