Why the sudden heartburn?

I have never been one to have heartburn, maybe once in a great while. Lately, i have been experiencing heartburn on and off . I can't really pinpoint it to any particular food. I have a pain right under my breast bone, when i have the heartburn. I decided to try an over the counter antacid pill to see if if improves and it seems to work. What could be causing this all of a sudden? Does stress cause this??
Thanks Bride527

Re: Why the sudden heartburn?

Yes, stress and anxiety cause your digestion to slow down, which causes reflux. Relax and walk for exercise.

Re: Why the sudden heartburn?

So there is a connection between stress and heartburn? I didn't knowthat.
I am a very healthy 55 year old and have never had a disgestive problem.
Again, the heartburn comes out of the blue lately. I am hoping it will subside a bit. I don't get it every time I eat. Thank Goodness. so for now i will take the antacids when needed.bride527

Re: Why the sudden heartburn?

After I was diagonosed with IBS, my doc put me on Prilosec on a daily basis, over the counter strength. The heartburn was so bad, that I couldn't breathe most of the time. It started out every few days, and then got to be every day, all day. If it becomes persistent, ask your doc about reflux.

how is your breathing now? Has anything helped? Did your doctors tell you your breating problems were caused by acid reflux?
