Foot Pain From Meds....Anyone Else?????? - Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

My feet are killing me when I first get up in the morning. The pain seems to taper off during the day. I had to stop taking Aciphex because of this and now it's happening with Prilosec. My feet start hurting after about 10 days of continues use of these meds. The pain will go away within 3-4 days after stopping the meds, but then the reflux comes back.

Anyone else with this weird side effect? Any ideas on what causes this? My doc thinks i'm crazy and can't find anything wrong with my feet. This has been happening long enough that I know for certain that it's the meds (two years on and off).

Thanks in advance for any input you can provide.

You may have gout, but I don't know if the two things are related. I have gerd and gout. I hope the PPI didn't give me the gout.

Can you describe the pain?
I feel mine most of the time and it involves just the two big toes. The only areas affected seem to be along the outer parts of toenails, facing inward. Hurts more when touched. Usually red in color. I suspected my Nike shoes, worn for months without any problems. Then ingrown toenails. Now I am not so sure. I have different shoes, toenails clipped very short and neat, and the toes still get like that. My uric acid levels are high, barely within range . That does not indicate anything. People can get gout with normal uric acid levels. I heard that gout pain is unbearable. Mine isn't like that. So, like you, I wait for it to go away. I am sure it will. When you say your feet hurt, where do they hurt?
P.S. I am on a bunch of meds that affect the lab values. I take 40mg Nexium for the GI problems.

My pain is mostly in the arches and balls of my feet. It kind of feels like I walked 20 miles the day before. I don't have to do anything but take prilosec or aciphex for a few days for this to happen. Without the meds my feet are 100%.

Hi,

Many of our medications cause muscle and joint aches and pains as a side effect. I think it's good though when one can pin down the meds as a probable cause of a problem. When we are pretty sure the meds are responsible, we don't have to worry that something else is going on. I have a similar thing happening with my hip. Doctors attribute EVERYTHING to aging. Makes things easy! No matter what the problem at hand, it's - guess what? - age related. Period.
