Question Do PPIs stop the refluxing?

PPIs are made to stop the poisonous acid from producing.

Are they also supposed to stop the reflux from occurring? I've read many of different readings on this board that PPIs never held back the reflux?

Re: Do PPIs stop the refluxing?

No one with moderate acid reflux keeps it down 100% with PPIs.

My GI told me a only a small percent of the mucus type reflux is actually acid. If it was then everyone who ever had heartburn would be in the hospital for life.

Re: Do PPIs stop the refluxing?

NO.

If PPIs or any acid-suppressors were actually halting reflux (i.e., regurgitation of stomach contents up your esophagus), it would be a CURE, if only a cure which needs constant replenishment.

It is only a stop-gap measure to relieve symptoms of the results of refluxing, which in this case is thanks mostly to ACID.

And it should be noted PPIs do NOT completely shut off acid production, as is widely believed both by neutral people taking the meds, and those trying to push the "natural" cures with lies such as PPIs "unnaturally stop all acid which you need".
