Anyone develop eczema after starting antacids? - Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

I am a 43 yr old male and developed a rash in the groin area a day after taking the purple pill. I initially thought it was jock itch because it was hot outside and I was sweating profusely. I treated with fungal cream and then went to the doctor after a week for a prescription and to verify what it was. He agreed that it was fungal and to keep it short four dermatologist and nine months later I have chronic eczema on the scrotum and leg creases.
I tried changing prescriptions and stopped taking it altogether but nothing has helped. Now I can't find anything that works for the skin problem.
I never had skin problems before.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Hi,

You wouldn't believe how many medications cause dermatologic issues. I take multiple meds so am no stranger to rashes. I had no rash problems before the meds. Now I have rashes all the time. The area most affected is the chest. I am grateful for that. Sometimes I get it on my legs. It is an ongoing thing. One of my drug books has tables with the different dermatological conditions caused by the meds, listing which drugs cause what skin disease or condition. It is a very, very long list...
As for what you can do about it....in some cases the discontinuation of the offending medication is enough for the skin problems to clear up and then everything returns to normal. Which, unfortunately, does not apply to me as I am stuck with my meds for life. I hope you'll find a way to heal the exzema.
