I need help - Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

I Hey everyone. I need some help. I don't know if anyone knows what this sounds like, but here goes.

Here lately I have been having symptoms like something is in my throat, I cough alot thinking that it maybe mucus (thats what it feels like) but nothing comes up. The musus is thick though. My tummy feels alittle upset but I don't throw up oe anything. I feel sometimes I can't breath. I burp ALL THE TIME and it's very annoying. I can only eat alittle bit at a time otherwise I will have an attack (feels like my throat is closing, coughing alot, tummy hurting, chest discomfort, and sometimes I puke up acid stuff (EWWW!))

I went to the doctor many times but not an ENT. I need to go I know just need to make time to go.

Last night was pretty weird...I woke up in the middle of the night with heavyiness on my chest like a tight feeling. I got up and started burping over and over and over. It felt like there was a huge lump in my throat. I also had a really weird dry mouth and it was dry in my throat and chest as well. I freaked out and had a panic attack. I drank some water and it helped alittle.

I also have been feeling kinda dizzy, lightheaded. I did have a sinus infection about 3 weeks ago. I don't know if it's due to that or if it's something else? I'm just really scared about this because it's been off and on for about 2 or 3 months and I don't wanna be on any meds for this because of side effects.

I really need some answers..I'm worryed, tired, and fed up with this....anyone have any ideas?

PS: I forgot tho add that I have been having muscle aches like on the shoulders and neck. I had a cat scan and my brain and sinusus were clear. But I just feel like there is something more...

I don't share the same symptoms but what you describe could very well be GERDS or LPR. Has your doctor tried any acid reducing meds?

Yes, he has subcribed me to take omeprazole....but I'm freaked out about the side effects. I want to try it to see if it will work though but I freak out everytime I try a new medication.

Hi AndreaM22,

Let me first just say - that I am sorry that you are suffering. I too share your fear of new medications. My fear gets so bad sometimes that if I have to a take a medication that I have never taken before I go sit in the ER waiting room and take it - 'just in case' - as weird as that may sound to some people - it gives me the courage I need to take that pill.

That being said - please try the medication - much of what you are suffering does sound like severe GERD/LPR. The medication and diet modification will help. Also try elevating the head of your bed.

I get the chest tightness and breathing problems with mine also - it is very scary. I keep Xanax by my bed at night - just in case I have a panick attack - this helps keep me calm so that I can deal with my GERD.

I have tried Prilosec and Prevacid - I now take extra strength pepcid (OTC) in the morning as soon as I wake up and right before I go to bed. It took about 3 weeks, but it is helping.

Thanks guys for your replies. I am going to try the meds and see if it helps. I hope that I have no side effects with it...I think that the more I think about it the worse it will be. Thank you Venessa74 for keeping me in your prayers as you will be in mine.
