I have suffered for years!

I am hoping to find others that have had or are considering having surgery.....to correct this!!!!

Search this forum. You will find many.

Personally, I have considered it, but ruled it out. You will get different opinions, but to me, it seems like a 50/50 shot of getting improvement from the surgery (and even then, you will still take meds). And the recovery from the surgery is hell. And there's a fair chance that after the surgery you will have complications. I decided, no thanks.

For the most part I would agree wih DK . I had the surgery in 1995 and it helped very minimally, if at all. I was in the hospital three days, had no complications, but could niot eat comfortably for months. To this day I still suffer from "gas bloat" at times. I would not do it again. I presently am taking Prevacid 30mg twice a day, and Zantac 300mg before bed.

Right now there doesn't seem to be a procedure that works well or even permanently, which is why insurance companies don't pay for them right now. I have researched extensively because I have had GERD since childhood and I am now 50 and getting to the point where cereal is too spicy. I hope something happens soon cuz I know I will be the first in line!

My mother had the stomach rap 20 years ago. At first she thought it was great. The past 10 years she has had problems with it. Lots of gas and bloating. I was scheduled to get it 7 years ago (I'm 50 now). I opted for the medication route hoping a less evasive procedure would come along soon. I now take 20mg of prilosec a day with great results. My esophagus has healed. I still have some reflux but at least it isn't acidic.

On occasion, I have a little acid reflux when I indulge in the wrong foods, but I just take a level teaspoon of baking soda and it takes care of it.
