How did you go off med for 24 hr Ph-metry test - Acid Reflux / GERD Message Board

I have my 24hr ph-metry test on 2nd of july, and was advised I have to go off med 5days beforehand.
I am currently on 40mg X2 a day.
Wondering if it is safe to sudenly come of 80mg of nexium.
How did you do it for the test?

you could step it down to once a day for a couple of days, then stop it

I would make sure you have some Gaviscon or Aludrox on hand incase your symptoms flare up

Thanks for the reply, I went out today and made sure I had enough gaviscon in stock.
Is it OK to take gaviscon? I was told by one technician to stop even gaviscom from 48hrs before, but another one said gavison is OK until uoi start the test, any ideas?

I would say Gaviscon would be ok upto about 2 hours before the test - it has no effect on acid secretion, it merely neutralises the acid in the stomach.

It passes out of the stomach within a couple of hours, so I cant see a problem
