For over 16 years now i have trouble swallowing food.
This only happens now and again i can go several meals and not be affected but on occasions i will swallow a mouthful and it feels like it gets stuck just below my adams apple feeling like it has gone into spasm. To cure this problem i take a drink of liquid the pain intensifies for maybe a second then i get relieved of the pain.
This can happen 10 times a meal.
On a rare occasion taking a drink does not resolve the problem and i cant swallow anything, all i can do is bring up a white type liquid like phlegm and causes huge discomfort both times i have been to hospital and it has finally passed only after several hours.
I have had the bearing swallow and camara down my throat but there doesnt seem to be a problem can anyone suggest anything or is there anyone out there with the same problem only i cant find anyone!

I am having the same problem and have just started looking to see what the problem may be. Let me know if you find anything.
I have started taking Prilosec OTC and that has helped a lot. The directions say you can only take it for 14 days but that was just soo it could get FDA approval for oTC.
This could all be from acid so that is the first thing to try to get under control. There are other meds that will help with these spasms, none that successful. Look up Nutcrackers esophagous to learn more but try the Prilosec, Nexiums,etc and see if that helps. you might need to see an ear, nose and throat doctor.
i have the same thing - started a yaer or two ago.. happens occasionally so i dont really worry about it - but its so bad all i can do is spit the food in mouth out and wait for the rest to finally work down. the pain is almost unbearable. i get so much phlem its crazy, how thick and mucusy it is.. and it goes just as fast as it came somtoimes just need wait few minutes sometimes i can resume eating... other times it take an hour or so - dont have any idea what causes it .. dont seem to have burn with it.. but it cramps like crazy to wher i feel i cant breath and can get down and cant get it up because i am afraid i will aspirate the food.. then the phlem starts.. o well lucky i dont get it everyday though it does seem more frequent as i get older.. wish i knew what it was.. - certain foods seem to aggrivate more - red wine comes to mind. ofcouse the dreaded egg yoke from hard boiled.. well hell i tink all have that problem.
