Re: get rid of silent reflux

It really depends on how severe your reflux is and what type of medical and lifestyle regimen you are on.

Lots of people see some improvement in a couple of weeks but it can take 2-3 months for significant improvement, and you may have to continue with some type of management regimen indefinitely.

Re: get rid of silent reflux

I was wondering the same thing. I am pretty sure I have this too. It is very frustrating and I am going through this one by one and making every change I can. I want to cure this darn thing. It just kind of creeps up on you out of nowhere sometimes. I mean I thought I was doing ok. Then right before Christmas, mucus galore! I know I was eating terriably. It's my fault and add that with the extreme stress I am under.

Now I have changed my diet for one week now. Almost too radically. My body is mad at me about that. I have even gone through caffeine withdrawal and the shakes. That has been awful. I thought I was going crazy.

I just need to know. Are there people who actually cure there reflux with the right healthy diet and minimal to no meds?? I just want to cry. I can't live my whole life in this kind of misery. Please anyone??

Re: get rid of silent reflux

I changed my diet when first being dignosed ....finally. I honestly can't say that it made any difference and figured why live my life more miserable. I was told that there was no cure for LPR period. It was a chronic disease and I believe it. There are maybe some days when I'm not so bad but I experience symptoms every single day no matter what. I'm really frustrated because people don't understand that I can't help it. Do they think I do this to get attention or what? I'm worn out from the PND and coughing. How can anyone feel good with this going on all day. Thanks for letting me vent today as I'm making myself worse by worrying about it.

I was in the same place as you but, once I got serious about changing my diet (and doing the other things my doctor recommended like raising the head of my bed, not eating for 3 hours before bedtime, etc.) I did start to notice a big difference.

I suspect you're right that there's no cure but it can be managed. It's frustrating because one bad decision can cause a flare up that takes days to die down, but it can be managed.

After the endoscopy (which I got through with no sedation) my GI doc was brutally honest with me and told me it would take 2 months to start feeling better IF I did everything he recommended. It hasn't been that long yet but I have definitely noticed some improvement, but it takes way more time and effort than I ever thought it would.

Hang in there.
