I have been scheduled for a 24 hour probe test for non acid reflux. My problem is that I wake up at night choking. My doctors have explained that the reflux from my stomach is causing my vocal cords to go into spasm and that I am indeed choking and without air when this happens. I also have sleep apnea and also use oxygen at night. My doctors say the non acid reflux is a seperate problem. They have prescribed a drug called Reglan but I have had a very bad time with it. The 24 hour probe test is being called the definitive test prior to surgery. The test worrys me as I am very hypersensitive to anything in my nose or throat. Has anyone had this test.
What can I expect? Thank you.
seems like non acid and weakly acidic reflux have no cure, i have weakly acidic according to the impedance test, it's been like 9 months now, the only "cures" i can think of are a nissen or baclofen, btw google lesogaberan is a new drug for reflux that astrazeneca (nexium ppl) is working on, is the same as baclofen but without the side effects.
Thnx for your reply. Manometry showed as if everything is normal, how could a surgery fix my non-acid reflux? I have no idea why it is happening and it is hard to believe that nothing can cure. I will lookup that drug online and read more about it.
Thnx for your reply. When I go home, I will lookup the details of my manometry. But as far as I remember everything was normal including swallowing. My ENT thinks I have an acid reflux, although I had only 3 acid refluxes during the 24 h ph study and the other 70 were non-acid. My GI thinks I have no acid-reflux and non-acid reflux shouldn't give me so many symtoms, especially related to throat pain. So he thinks it is throat related. My main symtoms are throat pain or weird feeling/taste. A few months ago I had severe indigestion and also couple weeks of mucus feeling in my throat and acid taste. But those are mostly gone now. I sometimes have feeling of chill and fatigue ( as if I have a low grade fever) and throat issues. I also have a lump sensation which comes ang goes for a few years ( its on the upper part o fmy throat in the left side, I feel it with my tongue). But I am feeling better now. Hope someday this will go away. Sauna is what makes my throat feel good while heavy icecream with milk makes me feel not too good, although I digest other milk products pretty well. I had an excellent digestion before but this year I have been having problems so I reduced consumtion of coffee, chocolate and spices.
