Everyone should read this if you have heartburn of any kind

I have read numerous posts about GERD, heartburn and acid reflux. In my opinion its all of the same. I have replied to a few posts but im going to post it again in here later on.

Prilosec, Nexium and every other Heartburn medication only releaves the symptons temp. They do not and will not CURE anything. these drugs were created to make money and keep you on them for your lifetime.
Dostors tell you that the reason you have heartburn is because there is too much acid in your stomach and it rises and rises causing acid relfux... SOOO not true. the real reason you have heartburn is the opposite. you have very little acid to digest the foods that are laying in your stomach, as the foods sit there it becomes rancid and very hard to digest. when you take meds it actually nutralizes all of the acid in your stomach forcing you to produce a ton more so it can digest the foods. also, your intestines need to be cleaned. clogged intestines slow the digestive process down significantly forcing foods to sit in your stomach and having no where to go but UP! ( acid reflux )

If anyone has mild to severe heartburn, I suggest you to buy a bottle of Braggs apple cidar vinegar. shake well and drink 2 to 3 capfulls and the heartburn will dissappear. ACV will create the acid needed to digest foods.

a long term cure is this:

first I had gotten a colonics done... your intestines need to be cleaned out if you want to digest your foods correctly. If you feel uncomfortable with colonics I suggest talking an oral colon clenser. it works well but not as good.

You can actually start in the morning before colonics is get a gallon of distilled water, a bottle of cold pressed organic aloe vera juice, Braggs ( has to be Braggs ) natural apple cider vinegar, organic lemons and get 12/12 probiotics

empty about a half a cup or so of the water. add 1/4 cup of the aloe juice. 1/4 cup of the vinegar and squeeze the lemon and add to the water. Mix well and drink the entire gallon thruout the day. take the probiotics 30 minutes before any meal. this aids in the digestion of the food.
This will correct the problem and try to stay away from any sodas, sugars and caffine while you do this. take this as long as you have heartburn and it WILL dissappear in no time!

also, try to eat lightly steamed veggies ( greens ) and fruits as they have enzymes that will aid in digestion as well. DO NOT eat fruits and veggies together because they have different enzymes that will neutralize each other out and will NOT digest properly. eat them about an hour apart.

<removed: read the rules!>

everyone needs to know that this is a natural process, this takes time but in the long run it works... its not a quick fix!

I read this and I'm curious to know what other posters think of this? Is it too good to be true, or does it make sense? Thanks.

apple cider does nothing for me other than burn my throat. It's NOT a cure for everyone. Some people do have relief with it so it never hurts to try, but it won't work for all cases.

Re: Everyone should read this if you have heartburn of any kind

thanks...I too believe the drugs are just a temporary mask but while I sit here day after day with the pain, and ill feeling i can appreciate why people get desperate. I have taken with great mediation medications for pain while recovering during a spinal cord/two disc neck and back injury since I was 42. Although I am proactive with exercise and I thought limiting my meds I now suffer from the results of having taken anything. So i will try this for sure although I must admit the apple cider vinegar does bug my bowels. However I was wondering your sentiments on the caplets of a. c. but having smelled the bottle they seem as strong as the a.c. itself. Thanks for informing us. I almost went back to the dr but I know it is just to try another drug and i cannot put myself through that again knowing especially it is going to come back and hit me in the gut...AGAIN.

Thanks ...nearly new nero

As you age, acid production is suppose to decrease. Thus some peoples problems could be caused by too little acid and taking the acid suppressing medication is not helpful, or even harmful. Johnny313 discovered this was his problem. Thus, you hear recommended suggestions like apple cider vinegar, and probiotics and digestive enzymes.

But some peoples problems are too much acid, and the various acid suppressing medications are helpful. Taking probiotics and digetive enymes can still be good for this too.

Anything that protects the stomach lining and promotes healing, like aloe vera juice and cabbage juice, is good for either conditions.

Re: Everyone should read this if you have heartburn of any kind

No serious doctor says GERD is "caused" by too much or little of ANYTHING. Not acid, nothing else.

The SPHINCTER DOESN'T WORK. It's nothing to do with how much acid is being produced; it is about the SPHINCTER. Failing sphincter allows "too much acid" into the ESOPHAGUS, where it should not be. Heartburn is when the esophagus burns, not the stomach.

There is no cure, period; and the suggestions of ACV and all the usual stuff are not cures, either. They don't stop the problem altogether when you have to keep taking it.

I agree with you on reflux being a mechanical problem with the lower valve but do you happen to know if there's anything that can be done if the problem is the upper valve?
You would think having surgery to repair the sphinter would solve the problem but I've read where is does not for those with LPR especially.

So basically, what can be done if there is "NO CURE EVER"?

I am 24 years old and a Gastro. with an endoscopy said I have a "mildly incompetent lower esophageal sphincter"

I've only had problems for 6 months now. Can this never be fixed?

The acid that our bodies produce to digest our food is hydrochloric acid (HCl). The acid in vinegar (apple cider or any other kind of vinegar) is acetic acid. Adding acetic acid to our digestive system is not going to replace the hydrochloric acid, because they are not the same chemically. Thus, drinking vinegar will do nothing to improve digestion.

I agree with Ol'Line Rebel -- the causes of GERD are not because we have too little vinegar in our diets. It's because our bodies cannot prevent the HCl from rising up into the esophagus. HCl is nasty stuff -- very corrosive. The stomach can handle it -- the esophagus and mouth cannot.

Besides, I can't stand eating a salad with too much vinegar on it, and the thought of slugging down 2 teaspoons of pure vinegar just makes me shudder.

Re: Everyone should read this if you have heartburn of any kind

First of all, there are cures for acid reflux...but the cures depend on the cause.

I suffered acid reflux for over 20 years (and took rx meds off and on over that period of time) only to have my symptoms disappear completely when treated for sleep apnea (cpap, no meds)...my sleep specialists told me that cpap treatment may very well take care of the problem and it did (please note that at times my reflux was so bad that I experienced vomiting at night and during the day). My reflux returned briefly when I started taking Norvasc, a med for hypertension. Disco'd the Norvasc, and haven't had problems since (18 months?).

In some cases, vinegar can help acid reflux, per docs on public tv.

And some people with acid reflux have their symptoms abate/disappear when treated with antibiotics.

But again, depends on what's causing the reflux....and these are just a few causes/cures.

Re: Everyone should read this if you have heartburn of any kind

Beth,

What do you think of my situation? I don't vomit at all. I've been having other medical issues, but everything has mainly remained undiagnosed.

My gastro's endoscopy says that I had H.Pylori (I did the 2-week treatment) and a mildly incompetent LES. A Colonoscopy I had came back normal.

I started off with a pain in my side after simple jogging and push-ups. This lasted for about a month. The next thing I know I started to have Gastritis and other eating issues.

I have no history of this. I am thin and 24 years old.

Re: Everyone should read this if you have heartburn of any kind

hi ... heartburn is the newest addition to my persistent-symptoms ...
i have got heart burn before (being diagnosed with SLE) and even now still put it down to food & smoking. but now i get it more often than not ... i steer away from triggers (except smoking). i have been told that it is reflux & the GP perscribes Altosec which does help... temporarily. i am prolonging going for any form of scope etc South African goverment healthcare is not a healthy system to get involved in ... private care is not affordablle for me at the moment but i also avoiding the rheumie as am having side affects to almost every medication, then all the other doctors that he sends me to
(nearly) had a breakdown in 2006 and chose the eastern route which cured me ... but i didn't stick to the raw fruit & veg for year & couldn't afford the treatment ... the doctor told me to finish the treatment not worry about payment but depression & 'not another favour syndrome' ... even only half the treatment i had NO symptoms for over 6 months and am still relatively drug free ...
my life is complicated with the sle & allergies ... too scared to find something else wrong ... used to have the motto 'rather go and there is nothing wrong, than not go and not catch it early ... now if it doesn't go away then i use meds

Normally, if the tests revealed little, I would suspect a sleep disorder...as most docs miss the signs of sleep apnea(this is only one kind of sleep disorder) despite about an estimated 20 percent of the population having such a condition (the docs get about 20 minutes training on sleep apnea IF they are "well educated"). But it's not the first thing I would suspect in your case...the symptoms you are experiencing aren't red flag symptoms for apnea.

Acid reflux is a symptom of something gone amok...your doctors suspected this when they went alooking for h. pylori...but I suspect they stopped looking when they found it. It is possible that you have another bacterial infection going on that is not being treated. Tests are unreliable as far as bacteria (and for that matter, other conditions) go. The fact that your symptoms began quite rapidly (in the last 6 months), also would explain a bacterial infection. From what I've read, people with similar symptoms who have responded to treatment (antibiotics) have been diagnosed with Borrelia burgdorferi and/or its coinfections.

Although its grossly underreported, you live in the state with the highest number of reported cases in this country (this is a worldwide problem by the way) for this infectious disease so it may be something you'd want to look into.

You're lucky you're not vomiting up stomach acid...my last memory of that experience was spending my time in the ladies room with my face in the basin when I should have been in the audience listening to a very special child sing a solo...it was over 5 years ago, but it could have been yesterday.

Re: Everyone should read this if you have heartburn of any kind

Well I've read about this years ago, tried it and nearly burned my throat out! I'm not a Pharmacuetical fan either but neither are the "natural" remedies any better, all trying for your almighty dollar. What I do know is Nexium has improved my GERD after one year, if you compare the two endoscopies from 2yrs ago to last year it is remarkably much better, NOT cured but it does heal it a lot better. I'm not out of the woods nor will I be. This is a disease that is not cured BUT controlled by lifestyle changes and unfortunately medication! I still get acid reflux from time to time but it is my lack of commitment to change of lifestyle and taking my meds faithfully, when I do I feel so much better than I did 2 yrs ago!

Re: Everyone should read this if you have heartburn of any kind

Hi everyone, yes, I have 'cured' my chronic bloating and heartburn two ways: eating better and taking digestive enzymes. It got bad enough that I became very careful about not mixing foods whose enzymes neutralize each other (like proteins and starches) but quite honestly, if you're not up to researching all that, the enzymes alone can help. They make a lot of different kinds - the ones that work best for me actually says on the label "Acid Soothe". Also, cutting out the junk helps a lot too : ((
