Acid reflux after surgery

Hi all! Here I am again. I just had vein removal surgery in my leg on Friday. All went well and I have been home recooperating. It is day 3. I am in alot of pain today as the healing process is taking place. They say day 3 can be one of the worst days. Anyhow I have been taking 800 mg of Ibuprofen every 8 hours and inbetween I take Tylenol. It has not been helping my acid reflux. Now that is flaring up. Of course I was stressed out having the surgery. I was so scared to have it done. I even had to take a valium before the procedure and you stay awake during it, just in a relaxed stated.

Apparently all of this has taken it's toll on my tummy. I have had flare ups on reflux, hiccups, burping, gas...all of that. My chest muscles hurt. Have any of you noticed any of that? Just curious. I just wish I didn't have to deal with that while I am trying to heal.

Re: Acid reflux after surgery

Hi,

I had that exact same surgery on my left leg about 3 years ago. I was fully awake and thought they were crazy when they handed me "one" valum and told me I would feel a heat sensation but no pain. I don't know about you but it hurt like hell to me! Dr. asked hadn't I had a baby before and I told him yes I had and it didn't hurt this bad. My recovery from that went quickly though and I think the support hose you have to wear is the worst thing of all of that.

I've had bad arthritis pain and plain overworked muscles for last few weeks in which I had to resort to taking some type of OTC meds. I think maybe one reason my LPR has been so bad lately. Sure there's 10 other reasons and some I'm probably not aware of. This is bad but sometimes if one of my other ailments shows up it takes my mind off of the acid reflux for a bit. Maybe because it's something that I have to stay still and get more rest, which helps my LPR symptoms. I know they are much worse when I'm very active.

Take care and hope you get better soon. I know it's uncomfortable with your leg as you probably must stay down and keep it propped. Just the opposite of dealing with acid reflux where you need to keep the other end propped up! What we go thru just to get thru a day.....

Re: Acid reflux after surgery

HI Charberry! Thanks for writing me. It did hurt having all those shots in the leg. It's been awhile since I had my children, so I still thought the pain was uncomfortable. And I too, just took one Valium. I call it the courage pill. It relaxed me just enough to say, yes go ahead and work on me. lol But other than that I was awake and white nuckling my ipod as I held on for dear life. I had the lazor procedure in the upper leg and the vein removal in the calf. I have 15 places where they removed vein and stitched me up. It is day 3 post op. 4 if you count the day I had it done. I won't lie. I am sore. The compression stockings are driving me nuts. Itchy! I feel trapped in...you name it. And I have 2 weeks of this!!

So the reflux was on the back burning until I got through the surgery and now it's flaring up. ugh! Like you said, I just try to make it through the day. Thanks for sharing!

Re: Acid reflux after surgery

Hi Em! Ya I have inherited bad veins. Ugh! In the legs. Luckily I only had one leg that needed worked on. It's going to look pretty when it's all healed up. It hurts though...and the heavy duty pain killers are now effecting my stomach. I just took some more Ibuprofen and I started feeling a panic attack coming on. I felt like my throat was getting tight. The whole nine yards. I haven't eaten much today. As far as the reflux I have been going it pretty natural. I did take some Tums today. That's about all I am doing. I may need to take some meds because of all the pain killers I have thrown into my stomach because of the leg. Ugh! How are you??

Re: Acid reflux after surgery

Hi tammy, I hope your legs heals fast. That really is some bad luck. You really cant seem to win between everything. I am currently off my medicine for the acid reflex. I was getting really bad headaches and my nexium was making them worse. The next medicine the dumb doctor put me on, had a million warnings about dont take with any vitamins and can cause serious stomach issues. So i havent dared taking that since i need my vitamins.

I am leaving in the morning to go see a pediatric GI specialist on friday afternoon. We finally found one,, about 250 miles away from us. The doctors here are all just a bunch of jokes.

I am still have problems with my spleen. Still don't know why its so swollen, plan on focusing my doctors appointment mainly on that since that is the most critical of everything. Ended up in the ER last Monday for really bad abdominal pains. They weren't sure what was going on, and the pain settled down so they sent me home.

Other than all of this nasty drama, Im doing good. I just wish i could feel better. I spend at least 70% of my days in bed just hanging out trying to get better. I do try and get outside everyday just so i dont become super overweight since that wont help my problems..

sorry that was long
