I've heard some people complain that their GERD or Acid Reflux gets so bad that they can't even drink water. Still, for all medical things, not drinking enough water is a bad thing. How do people who can't drink water because there GERD is so bad keep from getting dehydrated?
I'm sure they drink the water, but it's uncomfortable doing so. One of my worst spells, before I was diagnosed, there was nothing I could eat or drink without getting heartburn. I still drank water and tried to stick with a liquid or soft diet, but would still get heartburn to some degree.
my flare ups come in waves.. that worst period lasted about a week. It was within a few weeks that I started on meds. I haven't had a period as bad as that one since being on meds, but every now and then I go for a few days where I get it no matter what.
Water doesnt affect my reflex and i have GERD. Mine isnt all that severe though. My mom on the other hand doesnt have Acid reflex too bad but drinking any water at night gives her really bad heartburn. She has discovered that if she puts a tiny bit of diet(blood sugar problems) sprite in her glass of water doesnt give her heartburn and she can still stay hydrated before bed.
Note water doesnt do this to her at all during the day..
only in the evening and night.
