Quick Relief When Tums Fails

I take prilosec for acid reflux, which works most of the time. But there are times when I forget to take it, and the acid comes back with a vengance burning my throat, nose, and sometimes even my lungs. I don't know if I have developed a tolerance over the years, but Tums no longer works at all for me. Sometimes it seems to actually make the situation worse. The only thing that saves me in these emergencies is gargling skim milk and eating several slices of very starchy soft white bread (whole wheat does not work at all). This will stop the pain in less then five minutes, and unlike Tums, it works every single time.

Re: Quick Relief When Tums Fails

Tums just take the edge off but don't really work to take care of the big problem. They help in a pinch. At least for me.
