My Endoscopy - Possible Barretts....

I haven't talked about this in a few days because I have been so upset.

I had my endoscopy on Friday and the doctor showed me a picture of something he saw and said it could possibly be Barrett's from the shape of it. He said it was small, and told me not to worry and go have a good weekend and call in a week for the biopsy results. Everything else on my endoscopy was fine other than telling me I have acid reflux.

I have only been having reflux symptoms since June. I'm 36. Everyone told me before I went for the endoscopy not to worry as I have only had this for a short time and it wasn't going to be something bad.

But the doctor didn't tell me it could possibly be anything else than Barrett's,and I was still a little groggy from the medicine to ask. Could it possibly be anything else but it, I can't find anything else? My husband wants to talk to him today and have him relay all info to him.

Before having the reflux I had been having panic attacks and excessive worrying, which I thought I had gotten under control. This has just destroyed me thinking of this. I am depressed, I cry at the drop of the hat.

I have to call the office today to ask to be put on something different. I have been on omeprazole for over a month, I have eliminated anything I can think is bad for me to eat and I am still having reflux everyday, some days worse than others.

Did anything stress you out in June that it started? Stress and anxiety are big factors in causing acid reflux. You need to calm down and try to relax to get rid of it. Certain meds can cause it too. Think back and maybe you can pin point as to why you have it all of a sudden....It happened to me!

I did go through an huge amount of stress in April and May and was even given Ibuprofen to take in late April early May. I'm not surprised I got reflux from all of this, but what I am shocked at is even possible Barrett's when I have only had it for a month and a half.

I know I need to destress but at the same time waiting for the results stresses me out. I am going to ask my therapist tomorrow on what she recommends for the worry.

Well good news came on Tuesday. The doctor called and my biopsy results were ready. I don't have Barrett's. The spot that was damaged he saw so was very tiny and it tested negative for Barrett's and any other infections. I guess my panic in hearing that word after waking up from endoscopy sent me into a fit that I couldn't have anything else. The doctor believes it was from the Ibuprofen I was taking for headaches a while back, pill esophagitis. What a big relief.

He did say I still have reflux, but would like to see me ween off the omeprazole and see how I feel when I am off it. My husband expressed it to him that I still have reflux every day. Although not at the horrible pace I had two weeks back.

Everybody else and their mother, including my primary thinks its strange he would want me to go off it before I have even had a full couple of days without it. They all think I have given the omep long enough (5 1/2 weeks) and that I should switch to Nexium by now.
