Joint and muscle pain

Does anyone with acid reflux also have joint and muscle pain? I thought it was from sleeping with extra pillows, but it seems like now it's not 'just' in my shoulders and upper arms. Now my hips/buttocks too. Is this something else and acid reflux is just the symptom? I'm so frustrated with my doctors. I have insurance, but that doesn't help if the doctors don't have a clue. I've stopped exercising. I'm not overweight. Any clues? I'm almost 56.

Re: Joint and muscle pain

I was wondering if it was fibromyalgia. I hope not.

Re: Joint and muscle pain

I think it's all the medication we take for Acid Reflux. I'm on PPI and Pepcid AC. I think either side effect of medication, or side effect of no acid in gut.

Re: Joint and muscle pain

It did seem to start with the PPI. But I went off it at least a month ago and am just taking Gaviscon.

Did you go off of the PPI cold turkey or did you wheen yourself off?

Cold turkey. But I hadn't taken it that long consistently. Less than 2 months.

Re: Joint and muscle pain

Problem with Acid Reflux is that not only do you start taking body altering drugs (PPI's, pepcid type drugs, tums etc.) you also change the way you eat. In my case I stopped all dairy, I'm sure I'm not getting enough calcium, is that causing joint pain? Who knows. I don't think it's anything to worry about though, mine is more like an annoyance than anything major, though I do limit any kind of physical sports these days.

I tried cold turkey numerous times and boy did I suffer, chest pains, burning stomach you name it. The medication is supposed to be for 8wks but you have to take it for the rest of your life. Each time I go cold turkey I pray. You have to stop taking it sometimes because some of the acid reflux medication do cause other problems like headaches, neuroligal problems, taking away the acid that you need in your body the list goes on and on. Im on ranitidine right now and so far it as been working and it only $4. bucks to fill the prescription at Walmart but nothing works when you eat the wrong food or you get stressed out.

I hate to sound negative but there is no wheening yourself off because you have to get back on as soon as the symtoms come back and they will come back.Sorry I have had AR since 2004.
