I have just been diagnosed with LPR. One of my symptoms is that as well as bad breath from my mouth, i always have an awful smell coming from my nose. It kind of smells like chemicals or rotten eggs or something (gross i know )
Just wondering if anyone else with LPR, or GERD gets this? Did it go away for you? Thanks
Hi guys, You need to go to an ENT-ear nose and throat specialist. It is likely you have a polyp growing in your nasal cavity and sounds like it is spreading. My grandfather had that years ago and it eventually started growing outside of his nose!
While I agree that you should probably see an ENT, polyps do not typically cause an odor. They can cause bacteria to become trapped in your sinus cavities, which leads to infection and an odor, but they typically cause lots of other symptoms before it gets to that point.
The odor may be caused by either a fungal or bacterial infection or a condition called atrophic rhinitis, but you'll need to see a doctor for an endoscopic exam to really get a reliable diagnosis.
Thanks for all the replys.
I've been to the doctor and had a CT scan of my sinuses, and an endoscopy, and so far there is no sign of polyps or an infection. So i'm hoping that the reflux meds will make the smell go away. Thanks again.
I'm having the same problem with the rotten egg smell coming from my nose.
I've been told that its the food that hasn't digested, my body doesn't digest proteins properly which causes the food to ferment in the stomach.
What i do for the smell is gargle with Hydroproxide(spelling) mixed with water and I brush my teeth with baking soda.
Keep alot of peppermints with you. I also take zegerid for the acid reflux and i go back to the doctor in October. At that time i will have an endoscopy, because i do not want to take meds for the rest of my life.
oh i forgot..... i read on another post that magnesium helps alot with digestion so i picked up a bottle of Calcium,Magnesium and Zinc. I take it twice a day.
