I've been taking the pantoprazole for about a month. Nexium gave me stomach cramps, prilosec gave me horrible gas - funny for a day and that's it! No uncomfortable side effects from the pantoparazole, and ironically it's the only thing that slightly works.
I am on a lot of medications right now so it's hard to tell what's what, but I've noticed my appetite is less than usual. I struggle with too much snacking and have a tendency to eat more than I should at meals. It's not that I'm un-hungry, I just haven't felt the uncontrollable urge to snack and am satisfied with less food at meals. It could be any of the other meds I'm on too.
I took Pantaprazole for about a year and Loved it at first but then it slowly quit working as well so my DR put me on Nexium. I get the Stomach pains with it too and I've noticed that I get Really bloated too. Like i've eatten a HUGE meal only I haven't.
I'm Not a big alchol drinker but I do like an occasional mixed drink or Beer (maybe 1 every 2-3 months lol) and on the Pant I could not drink at all. My Stomach would hurt so bad. I can drink on the nexium and it not hurt. I would try the Pant and see how it works. The good thing is that if it doesn't work well for you there is something else you can try. Good luck

I have been on pantaprazole sodium for 8 years.(Panaloc) I have just been switched to pantaprazole magnisium ( Tenca). I have had amasing results, and I had acid bad enough that they did laser surgery to repair scaring that made swallowing dificult. The pantaprazole is now used to keep my acid from creating a repeat surgery. I found that there was some minor gas and a few loose stools in the first days and took a few days for full effect. But after a week or so there were no more side effects and my acid is completly under control. I could not live normal life without pantaprozole.
I hope this helps, I suffered major chest pains that started in Jan 2011, out of nowhere too and it radiated sometimes to each sides, arms and i was tired and just a general feeling of being unwell. Had emergency trips galore, its not my heart, and xrays showed nothing as well. I did an Upper GI series (chalk test) 3 weeks ago which diagnosed a moderate gastro reflux problem and was put on the creme of the creme they said which is Tecta (pantoprazole magnesium 40mg/daily) Ive been on it since the 28th of this March...after alot of pain and weight loss..Im starting to feel better, my body is a bit tired still but I think Im getting there, no diarhea but constipation is moderate and instestinal prob a little too. I think you need to wait a week or so, maybe then you will see the full benefit of it. I was loosing hope for a bit there, but im slowly climbing I think.
Take heart, Im happy to know Im not alone with this either
