Unhappy Re: LPR Sufferers who don't respond to ppis. Have you tried a GABA agonist like Lyri

Neurontin and Lyrica and damaged nerves in the throat. Let's understand that these medications are not actually for repairing nerve damage, they help reduce nerve pain. I have taken both for Fibromyalgia for years. I also suffer severe primary generalized osteoarthritis. These meds have done nothing to improve my nerve functions in my spine (OA involvement Cervical through Lumbar). In conjunction with 3 operations on my lumbar spine I am still taking many other pain meds. If these worked for even the pain I would be happy, but alas they have not. I have ulnar nerve problems and I have median nerve damage due to severe carpal tunnel (2 surgeries, bilateral) and I just happen to be taking Gabapentin (Neurontin) and Lyrica at the same time, no improvement. ,They are testing to determine if they will help but this has not yet been proved. Some people with lumbar spinal pain had reported that these meds may have helped with the pain. The use of this for LPR? I don't see it happening. Again nothing can "heal" nerve damage, nerves grow very, very slowly. This means regeneration is a very long process and from the literature I have read and knowing how these meds work I don't believe they will help.
If they worked I think many more parapalegics would be stepping out of their wheel chairs.
I am a little gruff today, I am suffering a bad set-back with my back pain, I have tried to do some gardening and I am painting my interior of the house and I have just been in a lot of pain, maybe I herniated another disc or something. I take 900 mg Lyrica daily, it's not helping.

Sharim. I guess I'm not explaining myself very well. I apologize. The neurontin will stop the injured nerve endings from firing(which is what is causing the pain). So when taking neurontin it will quiet the nerve endings so they will have time to start the process of regeneratingWhich I agree could take a couple of years. This does not work in pharalized people as their nerves will never regenerate.

I am sure that this is off-label and that Lyrica is no miracle drug, believe me. It barely helps with Fibromyalgia and it works a lot differently than you think. It binds with receptors in the brain to maybe ease pain but all the study data indicates this is less than they first expected. Try it but don't expect a miracle.
