Type of physician to perform Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication
Hello,
It seems my father needs Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication, or at least, needs to expore that option because his sphincter muscle was loosened four times he had Endoscopies by Gastroenterologies over the course of 10 years, and has been terrible Burning Mouth Syndrome that has been getting worse and worse.
Please tell me what type of physician performs Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication. So far, I have gotten found only General Surgeons, and even one Surgeon who performs Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery (my father is NOT overweigt) using Laproscopic procedures.
If we know what type of physician performs Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication, then we can start consulting with them to find the surgeon my father is most comfortable with.
Re: Type of physician to perform Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication
Actually, the gastroenterologist who performed the four endoscopies that loosened my dad's sphincter muscle is the one who recommended the Surgeon that performs Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery.
Are there other resources? General Surgeon seems rather broad. What board certifications should I look for. Many hospitals and surgeons are hesitant in giving the number and type of surgeries performed, I am not sure where to find this information. And of course if any of us goes to a General Surgeon and asks if they performed many Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication of course they will all say "yes".
My question: How do I VERIFY that the General Surgeon has performed this type of surgery?
I have heard so many horror stories about Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication, but my dad is suffering the acid reflux, causing the Burning Mouth Syndrome is so bad, he's only staying alive because of his family, otherwise many times he wishes he were dead.
