I'm just curious to know if any overweight GERD sufferers have found relief after shedding pounds. Losing weight (if you need to) seems to be one of the common recommendations from doctors.
I’ve recently lost 6 lbs (unintentionally) but still need to lose another 14-20 just to get into a healthy BMI range. And yes, a lot of that excess weight is concentrated in my middle. I sit all day in an office so it does get very uncomfortable. Poor leg circulation, bad posture and lower back pain were chronic problems I had before…and now I have this awful Acid Reflux on top of this!
So, will losing weight help? Healthy weight loss is obviously good for general well being...but if it helps with GERD too it would be extra motivation.
And I am open to exercise suggestions if you have them. I find that jarring motions (like jogging) upset my stomach. And if I stretch my torso too much I get that burning feeling in my esophagus.
The only time I was able to eliminate my GERD was when I lost a rediculous amount of weight. I'm skinny to begin with but fat tends to go to my gut. When I completely lost my gut my GERD was gone but I couldn't keep myself down at that weight, it was just to difficult. Exercising all the time, eating almost nothing, tough way to live.
