multitude of things

Hi there,

This is my first post - I really need some help!

I'm 20 years old and from the UK.

I have had mucus problems at the back of my throat for a good 10 years, when I was younger my doctor gave me amoxicillin but it didn't work - I think I was about 14.

I have found that fizzy drinks, spicy food, dairy and exercise contribute to this although most food groups flare it up. After countless visits to the doctor I got referred to ENT last year as they thought it was sinus and allergy related as I sneeze a lot and have atopical eczema which includes allergic rhinitis as one of the symptoms. I had an MRI scan which was clear so they did allergy pin*****s for cat dog house dustmite mould milk capsicum etc but all came back negative, I got referred back to another doctor who gave me Omeprazolewhich I originally laughed off-thinking they'd given up on me.

I started Slimming World in Jan this yr and my acid reflux is terrible constant wind bloatedness eggy belches and indigestion and my mucus problem is still just as bad. I'm going to hospital next week for patch tests relating to my eczema but haven't found a solution for whatever is ruining me. Im either waiting days to go to the loo or I can't control myself my parents have offered to pay for a private food intolerance check which I'm providing a blood sample for tomorrow. I have also had 3 tests for diabetes which came back negative and I have a severe latex allergy.

Can anyone help this is Ruining me! I can't even socialise with friends as I can't drink anything! Drs are terrible and keep fobbing me off with Omeprazole!

Re: multitude of things

This sounds a lot like Gerd/AR to me. I could be wrong, I'm not a Dr, but the Omeprazole your Dr has prescribed leads me to believe he is thinking along the same lines as me, This is a PPI which is generally prescribed for the above. I have the same problem myself.
Your Dr probably wants to see how you get on with this treatment. If it doesn't help, you may be reffered for an Endoscopy to see what is going on. Ive had three of them.
PPIs did not help me though other people seem to get on OK with them.
I changed my eating habits and I take Aloe Vera Digestive Aid juice which I feel has helped me. Probiotics are also good. For the Gas/Bloating, I eat small and often and take OTC Gaviscon. Do speak to your Dr again if there is no improvement. Good Luck, Solofelix.
