Ok..I've had this problem 4yrs& no help.it gets very old &depressing. Constant very thick mucus in throat that seems more from stomach than nasal..been to ENT & gastroenterologist & dx w hiatal hernia& acid reflux, with treatment being protonix,nexium,prilosec....u name it. Nothn evr helps( surely someone knows of something more. I've wondered if I should go to a different kind of dr &if something else could be wrong with me. Like some type of yeast in my body. I'm at my wits end any suggestions as to type dr I need??

Re: Thick mucus in throat driving me crazy:(

I think you're going to the right ones. With LPR I've read and heard that it can take a long time to receive any relief, even once on medications; which is a real bummer. However, 4 years is a long time. Maybe you should have then try you on some new meds? Sometimes it actually takes a mixture of three medications to make a difference!

I have the same issue. Get some Mucinex the REGULAR not decongestant and take when needed. It really helps. I have beeon on Prilosec for 4 years and mucin ex for about 7 months and so far doing OK. Best of luck

Mucus is just part of having gerd

Re: Thick mucus in throat driving me crazy:(

Hello, I was prescribed (SUDAFED) by a very good ENT Specialist in England. I was suffering from awful Catarrh in my nose and throat, so thick like I could nearly choke trying to swallow. I think Mucus or Cataarh are very similar and you may find this helpful, if its available in your country. I have Gerd/ Hiatal Hernia and Diverticulitis. I don't take PPIs as I don't want to go down that road. I stick with a healthy Diet and ALOE VERA. I wish you all the best, Solofelix.

Re: Thick mucus in throat driving me crazy:(

One of the more common mixtures is the dexilant 60mg twice a day with 1 rantinidine 150mg once a day. I take all my meds in the morning but I am still having serious issues so I am seeing an ENT this Tuesday, (what joy!) I've been on prilosec, protonix, and zantac all together before when my GERD was really bad, I did not have LPR symptoms then. Just trial and error really. Are these your only symptoms because normally an ENT can gauge what medications to dose you on depending on the stage of your illness with this.

Re: Thick mucus in throat driving me crazy:(

Hi I to have had problems for 2 1/2 years. muscus, coughing, breathing problems, hoarsness. Ent told me my vocal cords were very red and inflamed, started using nexium (still on it) and naxonex (whichI have stopped). Think my problems is more acid reflux. Went back 8 weeks later after starting on these, and vocal cords were a bit better, went back a year later and much much better. Anyway just don't give up. My syptoms are so much less finally. Is it just the mucus or other syptoms too?

With my problems with this, I always have a horrible taste in my mouth, which drives me crazy!! This is a huge reason for my insecurities do you all have that problem too?& what do u do? Re: Thick mucus in throat driving me crazy:(

I worry all the time. I try to push stuff to the back of my mind and be thankful for everyday I am blessed with. I do get down days though, all of us do I'm sure. Just try and not worry and stress. You need a different medication mixture for sure, if what you had been taking has not helped. Just the main thing is to try and stay positive through all of this, there is really nothing you can do to change what has happened but living the right way can improve everything for you. Good luck! :-) I'm going to my first ENT appt. tommorow, ever and I am scared to death! Still trying to stay positive though.

He was a very nice ENT doctor. Very quick though. I will post on my other thread about it. I believe it is titled, "So anxious and worried..."

Re: Thick mucus in throat driving me crazy:(

I have had a chronic cough for over 2 years and done all the test. Doctors only say it could be reflux or post nasal drip and I really don't believe it is either. I do know I have constant mucus in my throat. I have used a netti pot, apple cider vinegar with honey and hot water. They do help somewhat but I cough all day long. While in Belgium I asked in one of their pharmacies if they could suggest something for mucus and they gave me something called Lysomucil 200mg. It really seemed to work. I was still scared that it was a medication of some sort but in further investigating it appears to be equivalent to nutritional supplement called NAC or N Acetyl Cysteine. I have not tried the supplement yet here but will and see if it provides the same relief as what I bought in Belgium. I had a horrible day yesterday and haven't actually tried to used the Lysomucil I bought in Belgium as I have still been trying other solution which have not worked. Even tried Mucus Clear which is advertised all over. 38 dollars for a little bottle. This supplement seems to have lots of benefits and helps with mucus. So looking forward to seeing if I get relief while also helping my body. If anyone has tried this supplement and received relief from coughing or mucus, please let me know. Thanks.

Not too sure about this product after reading about the side-effects.
Of course everyone is different and what suits one may not suit another.
One product I have found very good, it's even suitable for children is SUDAFED which is available in tablet/syrup.
Others may have different views.

Solofelix.

Re: Thick mucus in throat driving me crazy:(

Interesting as it was confusing to me as to whether N Acetyl Cysteine was a drug or nutrient. I went to CVS pharmacies and they said definitely that it was a prescription drug and must be prescribed. I then went to a health food store and they told me CVS was misinformed and that it was an natural amino acid which I could buy there. The bottle claims numerous health benefits but I was buying it to help clear the mucus from my throat which has caused my 2 1/2 year cough. I am on day 2 of this natural nutrient and my cough has subsided tremendously. I hope continued use will completely eliminate it.
