Whilst my health issues concern me and I'm taking steps to reduce them, I consider myself luckier than most because I do not experience the severity that others have described.
But having had some form of reflux for 6 years I'm not sure what's 'normal' any more. My own reflux, now I'm coming off PPIs (only 10mg every other day) takes the form of:
Some burning in oesophagus during the night, minimised if I sleep on my back or left.
Some reflux, in conjunction with burping, perhaps about 5-6 times a day but instantly calmed by chewing gum or having something small to eat
Some aches in my stomach and upper right (under ribs)
I'm pretty sure reflux once a day and at night isn't normal but it does seem minimal compared to some horror stories I've heard. I'd be curious to know if anyone else has symptoms similar in nature.
That is more than normal. However, when coming off PPI, you may experience increased digestive symptoms for up to 2 months, longer if you taper slowly.
Have you at any point had a gastroenterologist investigate your symptoms?
This sounds very mild to what most of us have. I did read that sleeping on your left side is better for those suffering AR/GERD, I certainly find it more comfortable.
I see you are in the UK. Why not try GAVISCON before going to bed and first thing in the morning, I believe you can buy GAVISCON EXTRA now. I find this helpful. Good luck, Solofelix.
I've been seeing my doc. I did a few years ago - tests were negative so they he just said the LES was weakened. I'm having new tests now - its been a few years. I've had to keep off the PPIs for the H.Pylori test, which is incentive to keep going. One of my docs is a gastro specialist.
I've suffered with symptoms such as these for years, but alot more severe. The GERD itself had subsided only to begin having major issues with LPR now. I can still feel the regular acid reflux which causes stomach issues for me and breathing problems but it is no where as bad as this dang LPR reflux I have developed. I am being treated now and I feel lots better than what I did but I'm constantly finding things to worry about that I had not noticed before.
It is a tiresome battle. Just take care of yourself :-) If a flare up starts occurring then immediatly seek help. Waiting is the worst thing because the longer you wait the harder it is to get the problems to subside. Good luck and again, I hope you are well.

Thanks. I'm still off my PPIs - 3 weeks now. Blood tests came back negative. I'm starting taking a spoonful of Gaviscon before bed and it keeps the night time reflux away completely. More than that it appears to keep it away for the next day - for the most part.
