When I was at my general doctor's a few months ago about something else, I mentioned that I was belching a lot and getting a bad acidy taste in my throat everyday. He said that was acid reflux and to change my diet, eat small meals, and I can try prilosec otc for a few weeks. I talked to another doctor at the same time and she just said to make the lifestyle changes. I'm working on it now, but everything I read online says to make sure you get properly diagnosed before you do anything else. Is this considered a proper diagnosis? He didn't run any tests or anything, is that normal? How did you guys get diagnosed?
I had the same as you, then I had bleeding from my stomach and was sent for an Endoscopy/Biopsy. It was found I had H.Pylori and Gerd. See how things go with the Prilosec, take them as prescribed, they say up to eight weeks for any improvement. If no change, go back to your DR who will then more than likely send you for an Endoscopy. Good Luck, Solofelix.
It would not hurt to make dietary changes now but you need to follow up with a GI doc or an ENT since you mention the acid coming into your throat and the belching? A nasal scope with an ENT and an Endoscopy with a GI are how the diagnosis is done. Sometimes a barium swallow can be done if you are having swallowing issues. There are a multitude of tests but just a doc sittin there telling you this is possible acid reflux disease and to try an otc is not helpful, not in my opinion.
