Dont know if im posting in the right place but for a while ive been having this problem where Im eating/drinking and after ive swallowed i feel pressure and shortness of breath and become lightheaded like i cant catch my breath. Naturally i stop eating/drinking.One time it happened i wanted to pass out , felt i couldnt breathe and my heart was racing. I thought maybe i was eating too fast or didnt chew enough but its happened when i drink more than cup of whatever.its like a suffocating feeling. I dont know what to do anymore, had a barium swallow, all normal. I went to an ENT where he stuck a camera down my nose into throat and he said everything look fine. He told me i have a deviated septum whatever that is??? im on 40mg of omeprazole, was feeling better but this started up again yesterday when i had a glass of milk and piece of bread. I took my last drink of milk and i got the feeling for couple seconds. Earlier today i was eating and it happened, tried not to panic and it passed. I dont know what to do or who to see. ive lost 40 lbs already in the past 2 months. I ended up in the hospital because I stopped eating for 3 weeks due to this.Im scared im going to choke to death one day.
Hi, First of all a DEVIATED SPECTUM is the bone that separates the two Nasal Passages,
Its quite common, I have the same, Its where the bone is crooked and can cause one side or the other of your nose to become blocked up at times. Did you have an Endoscopy. The reason I ask is because I have similar symptoms and an Endoscopy revealed I have a HIATAL HERNIA and AR. Both of these will also cause your symptoms and you are on the PPIs for that reason. It could mean you may need to increase your dose. Speak to your Dr again as treatment sometimes needs adjustment. I wish you the best, Solofelix.
I agree with Solofelix. If you haven't had one, an endoscopy is the way to go. I had very similar symptoms to yours; however, I had no heartburn or evidence of acid in my throat or anything like that. Mostly just the choking feeling. Even on medication and other changes, I still have my bad days and my not so bad days. Hopefully one day it will be gone for good. I wish you well and hope your issues disappear.
thanks for you input, but how do i go about getting an endoscopy? I dont have insurance so how would it work. Do i need someone to refer me? and to what kind of doctor? I have no idea what to do,do i call and schedule an appt with the ENT that put a camera down my nose ? Thanks in advance for your help.
Your ENT will probably have to refer you to a gastroenterogist. It's not a bad procedure but it can be kind of expensive if you don't have coverage. Good luck and I hope you get the answers you need.
Unfortunately, I can find no evidence that one thing affects me any more than anything else. Since I don't have heartburn, per se, it's hard to tell. A lot of times, it's worse in the mornings but then a lot of times, it's at night that I suffer most. I have restricted my diet to almost nothng because I hate the way my throat feels when I have that lump and feel like I'm choking. Nothing I've done so far has really helped me a great deal but I haven't had this condition as long as some other people who have posted here. Keep in touch and let us know your progress!
I dont know how things work where you live. For me I went to my Dr because I had bleeding from my stomach and he reffered me to a GI Specialist who then arranged the Endoscopy. Its a simple procedure but I dont know about the cost as we have a different system here. Solofelix.
