Anyone had luck controlling reflux with diet and the occasional OTC acid reducer?

I have been trying to go the natural route (DGL, ACV, acid/alkaline diet) along with a very strict diet. I don't think my diet can get any better except maybe if I started juicing or going completely raw. I don't drink or smoke and I exercise regularly....I am a normal weight.

Anyway, I have been doing my darndest and I STILL need to rely on the occasional Pepcid, sometimes for a couple days. My reflux is far from severe but I still notice it so it's not gone. I think I may always have to rely on this, but it's better than PPI's, which I had been on for 8+ years. I would love to do all natural and not have to rely on any OTC but some days it just doesn't work.

Anyone do really well with diet and lifestyle and the occasional Pepcid or Zantac thrown in there when you have a flare up?

I have done that for periods of time. It seems like a very reasonable plan--mostly rely on diet and lifestyle changes, and pop out the Zantac when needed. You can also take it before a meal if you are going to eat out and know it might be hard to find stuff on your diet.

Re: Anyone had luck controlling reflux with diet and the occasional OTC acid reducer?

Hi, I developed AR/Gerd 2.5 yrs ago after treatment for H.Pylori.
I was given Nexium but never took it as I was put of by a friend who is literally hooked on them.
I can go for weeks feeling pretty good and then out of the blue it rears its ugly head again. I try hard to stay with a healthy diet and take OTC Gaviscon and a short course of GRAPEFRUIT SEED EXTRACT which seems to help.
If you can get by on OTC medication and diet then that's good.
There are others who need a bit extra. All the best, Solofelix.
