What does it mean when your acid reflux, comes and goes?

ok so i came down with acid reflux 4 months ago, i managed to keep it at bay with ppi's, i went for H pylori test and it came back negative, doctor just says it will go away it prob a stomach/peptic ulcar, so iv gone on a alkaline diet, and it all seems to be working, however now im getting this wierd thing in my stomach, its like feels like theres a hole in there, or some wierd feeling, and sometimes i get this lump in throat, anyone know what this is? its so anoying! and when i eat food i always have to burp /blelch, but definitely something there in the stomach after the food is digesting it feels like its churning, is this result from taking the ppis? do i need to take any good bacteria for stomach to balance it? or wait for ulcar to completely disappear? (if it is a ulcar), i notice i can feel a very very very mild burning sensation after eat, its similar to feeling of when you get acid refux, however it just stays mild then goes away, is this stomach ulcar healing? just need osme input from some experts lol cheers any help would be appreciative

Re: What does it mean when your acid reflux, comes and goes?

What test did you have for H.Pylori. You sound like you need an Endoscopy to see what is going on.
I had an Ulcer that bled and they can be very painful. They do take sometime to heal (Like a mouth ulcer). Continue with the PPIs and you can also take Gaviscon.
Get some good Probiotics as well, also plain Probiotic Yogurt is good. Try not to worry about your symptoms such as lump in the throat etc, these are all AR/GERD symptoms. You can try ALOE VERA JUICE which is good for the Digestion also GRAPEFRUIT SEED EXTRACT is good for many things, Good Luck, Solofelix.

Re: What does it mean when your acid reflux, comes and goes?

cheers i appreciate our reply, I had to blow into a balloon lol , thats bout it, i try get a endoscopy done, what does it usualy reveal taking a endoscopy? Also this acid reflux just came out of no where, ok what im bout to say mite be ultra paranoia but, i notice this came after i had un protected sex with my gf, (who i am not with anymore we broke up several months ago) but week or so after we done the deed, i began to have these symptons, could it be related? reason i say this is, i dont drink, never smoked, i trained for football and martial arts every week, since i came down with acid reflux i have not trained , which was 4 months ago, been sitting at home trying to fix this, but in last few weeks it seems like its going away thanks to the ppi and alkaline diet, however that problem i mentioned before remains there, the wierd churning in stomach, and very very very very mild burning sensation, but no acid, and no i dont get pains, wierd ay? hmmm maybe im worrying for no reason.. could it be anxiety related? i have anxie4ty disorder but i dont think it could effect my stomach, can it not?

Re: What does it mean when your acid reflux, comes and goes?

My acid reflux came on suddenly as well. Nothing that I could pinpoint other than I woke up one day with a sore throat and difficulty swallowing. Had an endoscopy which was no big deal. You are sedated and won't remember a thing when you wake up. This is I think the only way they can diagnose specifically what the problem is. It is done out-patient and you go home right after the effects of the sedation wears off. I had no after-effects from the procedure of any kind. I do not have the typical heartburn/acid indigestion as many others suffer from so that's a plus for me. Anxiety can create havoc with many areas of the body and during my last ENT appointment, they recommended that I discuss with my primary doctor about my anxiety issues in case that could contribute to my problems.

Just know you're not alone. There are many of us out here who are struggling with finding the answers to our woes. Take Care!

Re: What does it mean when your acid reflux, comes and goes?

ok no worrys thanks for the info, can i ask what were your results, and what you had to undergo, and what you are currently taking or your routine now? , what worked best for you? is your ulcar still there? did you try pro biotics? sorry for 50 questions, just trying to get a understanding of all this, there has to be underlying problems why ulcars accure etc, anxiety could be one major cause.
Reply when you can

regards

J

Re: What does it mean when your acid reflux, comes and goes?

First had a scope by ENT which revealed acid reflux. She referred me to GI specialist who did the endoscopy. They found polyps and did biopsies and diagnosed Barrett's Esophagus and H-Pylori. Took Dexilant 60mg for the Barrett's for a month, a high potency PPI. Haven't done anything for the H-Pylori because the only thing my GI said he could do was an antibiotic and I am not able to swallow pills. Don't know what we'll do about that. I am currently on Nexium 40mg/day. I also take a B-12 supplement everyday and a Magnesium/Calcium/Potassium supplement everyday. I just ordered some probiotics today and will begin taking it when it arrives. Since I never have heartburn, I can eat most anything except I am not able to swallow very well. Mostly semi-solid food like mashed potatoes, soup, eggs, yogurt, etc. I did purchase a wedge to sleep on and I don't know that it has helped but I've gotten used to it and I don't think I could sleep as well without it. Went to my primary doctor yesterday and he prescribed a "swish and swallow" medication that he said may help with the "lump in the throat" feeling but is also good for aiding in digestion and coating the stomach. I haven't started that yet as I haven't picked it up yet. It is a mixture of several different things but I think the main one is Carafate. He also prescribed a low dosage anxiety medication (Alprazolam) that he says I can use just when I need to. I don't know if I will do that or not.

Hope this is helpful. Let me know how you are getting along.

Re: What does it mean when your acid reflux, comes and goes?

Hi jayjohnson,
In the beginning I was having all sorts of stomach issues, a blood test showed Antibodies (whatever they might be). I was then referred for an Endoscopy/Biopsy which revealed H.Pylori. I was given Antibiotics (big dose Horrible Side effects). Further Endoscopy/Biopsy showed it had gone. In all Ive had three Endoscopys and the last revealed AR/GERD and a Hiatal Hernia. I was prescribed NEXIUM but only took it for two weeks.
I changed my diet and that has helped a lot. I take OTC Gaviscon and Probiotics. I also found Grapefruit Seed Extract helpful, also Aloe Vera Juice.
My Ulcer has gone but I feel I may have had others during the past 2.5 yrs.
Hope this info helps you. Solofelix.
