Re: GERD related? centered Chest tightness, constricted breathing, pounding palpitati

Thanks so much. Just finding out what it is would be so great. Also when other people have similar symptoms,it somehow reassured me. Not that I want others to feel bad! I hope everyone is feeling good soon. I usually worry about others, lately I have been all about myself. I apologize for that

A lot of your symptoms sound auto-immune. I get chest, neck and shoulder pain and tightness. I have an auto immune disease that causes it. Are you fatigued? BTW I thought magnesium could be the cause of my problems at first, too. I took it and nothing changed.

Bay7000 Have you ever been tested for asthma?
hi,
no i have not been tested for asthma...today i exercised a bit and noticed
no sharp pains, and i can still take deep breaths when jogging.
but the dull achey tightness is still there.
i also noticed more pain (below left breast) when i was nervous talking on the phone today..from acid?

i did some blood work last month and my doc said it came out normal, . past few weeks i noticed i do experience weakness in the legs, some slightly burning knees, and hips. i tend to urinate more frequently. and my back (back of ribs, and upper shoulders) seems to tighten up and cramp a bit...i didnt really experience these before...

i also have a history of neck pain, with burning sensations that can give me headaches, and weak left arm. but my left arm hasnt been that numb or tingly lately.

whats the difference between blood work tests and auto immune? does the regular blood work test account for all the other stuff? how do you treat your condition?

stressedtomax:
yea, as icecreamlady said, i think you will be ok. lately i have been trying to distract the mind and not worry to much about my symptoms..i kinda just shrug it off, stressing off of it will make it worse. but i do keep a log of my symptoms in a lil journal.

i had some phone interview today and my nervousness made my left chest area ache a bit more, somewhat of a slight burning feeling...could be the acid or whatever?

He was not very forth coming, I found out later I was his last appt of the day, he was leaving for the weekend. I also called the cardio office, about the holter results. The doctor was not in and had not reviewed them, but his nurse told me she didn't see anything serious. She said there were some PVS's and PAC's, but didn't think they were any big deal? So I guess I wait some more.
I just had the results of my endoscopy showing a hiatal hernia. Confirming Barretts esophagus. Protonix is NOT working. Still burping and tightness in the sternum. Any help? Any suggestions? burpy2

If your doctor thinks you have inflammatory arthritis the initial blood work would be rheumatoid factor, ANA, SED rate or CRP. I really don't think you have this.

I had to go back and reread your original post. It really sounds like you are under a lot of stress. Stress if not controlled can cause many of the symptoms you are having, It is very normal for your blood pressure to fluctuate especially if you are anxious like at a doctor's appointment. You need to trust me on this one. This stress will come back and bite you later on. If you have mild GERD now, stress will make it a lot worse. My GERD causes me to have asthma attacks when it is really bad which causes anxiety which causes more GERD and muscle tightness and cramping and weakness.
You have lost weight and your are exercising. These are good things. Exercise will help you to reduce your stress level. When I feel the anxiety creeping up on me, I close my eyes and say out loud "anxiety is a state of mind and I can control it". I say it as many times as I need to and as stupid as it sounds, it works!

I should have wrote that an endoscopy will not always show if you have a hiatel hernia and I apologize for that.

The post from Burpy2 reminds me of how serious GERD can be if it is not controlled. I'm sorry about the Barrett's Esophagus. You must be in a lot of pain. I have tried all acid reducers and PPI's and the only thing that has given me relief is Nexium.

I almost forgot. My gastro doctor gave me samples of Dexilant 60mg. For me it worked exactly as well as the Nexium but much more expensive, so I stayed with the Nexium.

Icecreamlady, what is sjogrens? Not that I want a disease, but a diagnosis would be half the battle. I have never heard of this. Thanks for all of your suggestions.

Re: GERD related? centered Chest tightness, constricted breathing, pounding palpitati

I'm new to the boards and just wanted to throw my story in too. I was diagnosed with slight barrotts esophagus early 2011 after several trips to the ER with symptoms similar to the OP. I had burning acid reflux for a couple years but thought it was normal. Then it started to keep me up at night but kept on using tums. I went to get it checked out and they put me on PPI's but I wasn't consistent because I hate prescriptions. Then sometime later I felt chest pressure for a few days and started to feel uneasy. It got worse so I looked up chest pain on google and I had all the symptoms of a heart attack. I went into severe panic and had my friend rush me to the ER. I was basically told I was crazy and they looked insulted that I would waste their time. Had an EKG and was sent home with NO explanation!

This post is getting long I'll try to summarize:

Put on PPI's again but still had chest pains. Sometimes they move around sometimes they are sharp sometimes just pressure. Palpitations. Serveral more trips to ER. They call me crazy. Several more EKG's, blood work, ultrasound, chest x-ray, thyroid check...all clear.

Would notice my heart beat all the time thought it was too fast/unpredictable. Wake up in the middle of night with with waves through the body (only way I could describe it) and rapid heart rate. Always depressed or panic feeling like I'm going to drop dead at any moment. Dizziness and weird headaches. Strange back pain. Hard time swallowing and feeling things would get stuck FOR WEEKS ON END and feeling like someone was squeezing my esophagus.

I was finally diagnosed with BE and hiatal hernia but all the symptoms remain. Going off caffeine is the only thing that's helped me my anxiety doesn't spike as high as it use to.

I'm sure there are more symptoms I'm forgetting and I don't want to turn a long post any longs.

All I can say is I've been there and it's a nightmare and I'm only 28.

I don't know where to start. Fortunately, my gastro dr. decided I don't have Barretts, that he saw no sign of it despite the clinical report. I, too, have given up coffee. It's a must.

Hope things get much better for you.

Wow this is exactly what i have, i mean EXACTLY. It's gradually gotten worse over the last 2/3 years. Im also 28, diagnosed GERD victim. Taking Omeprazole. Hair falling out, thanks doc

I also have the 'waves' throughout the body. Infact this all started roughly three years ago when i had a sudden series of Out of Body Experiences (call me crazy but they were what they were). They always started with violent pulsating waves flowing through my body. I don't think i have been the same since. Looking back, i think this may have been a bodily reaction to some sort of chemical imbalance.

I have had major fatigue problems and depression on top of all the usual chest/anxiety symptoms. I also can't think properly which is probably due to the resulting depression.

I have for a while been thinking about getting checked for Bipolar Disorder, something with similar mental symptoms, and something pretty common in 20 somethings.

You guys came out with a hernia ? might have to get that checked, my mum suspected that.

Things that have made me feel better for you to consider -

- Sando K potassium supplement (uk name) (same as 2 bananas per day)]
- Gatorade
- Stop Drinking Alcohol
- Cut out Greasy food
- Sleep with head up.
- Swimming
- Drink lots of Water

Re: GERD related? centered Chest tightness, constricted breathing, pounding palpitati

I have tightness pretty much everyday, all day ... it is so scary at times ... feels like I wont be able to breath right any minute ...it is like an ACE bandage wrapped around my upper body, pulled way too tight ... it shifts during the day ... wake up, its on the right side, later in day, its on the left side ... yes it causes anxiety ...

I am so sick of feeling this way ... it has literally stopped my daily life ... I dont go anywhere anymore, havent worked in a couple months ...

I dont have insurance, so its hard, sooo hard to find out exactly whats wrong with me ...

I did have a lung xray and EKG, blood work ... all came back good, which I am so very thankful for! But come on, there has to be an answer ... I want my life back!

Re: GERD related? centered Chest tightness, constricted breathing, pounding palpitati

Definitely get an ultra sound and a upper G.I. done that's how they diagnosed me with gerds ... I've had all your symptoms and more taking pretty much everything and I feel even worse from when it first started I'm going back to my doctor to see what's next, but hopefully they will find what's wrong with you and they can solve your problem.
