Five years ago, I had a severe bout of plantar fasciitis (a tendon problem in my foot) and was prescribed 1,000 mg of NSAIDS per day. After a few months, I got gastritis (no surprise, right?). Since the, I have had GERD, including food regurgitation, on and off, but it has gotten worse recently. I have now developed a chronic dry cough and mouth dryness. My internist had me checked by the pulmonologist for the cough, and nothing unusual showed up.
My guess is that the cough is due to my reflux, so I am back on Protonix. But my doctor did not think that the dry mouth was related to the reflux. So I am curious whether anybody has experienced dry mouth related to their GERD, including silent GERD which I also have. And when I say dry, I mean 24/7 dry, tongue sticking to the roof of your mouth dry when you wake up. Thanks.
hi, i dont know if this is the exact same thing but when i was pregnant around 7 months i had the worst heartburn and during the night liquid would come back up into my mouth, the doctor said i had some kind of reflux, most likely caused by pregnancy, but anyway my point being, i had a terrible dry mouth, i had to constantly chew gum and brush with biotene. i was referred to an ENT specialist at the hospital, they thought the dry mouth was a combination of the reflux and pregnancy hormones, apparently hormones can cause problems with the mouth?? also they said because i was getting so stressed out by it, i was making it worse. they put me on diazepam which didnt really help. anyway now iv had my baby and the reflux has stopped i no longer suffer with this problem, although near the time when my period is due, my mouth still feels odd, again maybe the hormones?
