Soreness under sternum??

Hi guys, almost 7 weeks ago I started with what felt like a pulled muscle
under my sternum directly in between my breasts This progressed to that of a burning sensation and I began to belch a lot. It hurt more when I had to bend or twist my body, like getting in and out of a car, or turning over in bed.

I have been on Naproxen for 2 years for arthritis, and was only supposed to be on them short term.

Since I have stopped them after advice from my GP it has settled down but I'm still sore.

I had an ultra sound last Friday and all seemed to be ok, no sign of gallstones, and this Saturday I am booked in as a day patient, to be sedated for a Gastroscopy.

My consultant, thinks its swollen inflamed stomach lining due to the long term use of an NSAID.

This sore feeling is confusing me sad to how it can be this, as its tender, almost like I have pulled a muscle in my stomach and I wondered if anyone else here with GERD has this symptom?

Thanks in advance

Andrea

Re: Soreness under sternum??

Well I went into hospital last Saturday and was sedated for the endoscopy & I would recommend sedation as I didn't remember a thing about the procedure.

Turns out I Have bile reflux, I make an unusual amount of bile and had lots of it in my gullet along with inflammation. Also a sliding hernia.

I have recently been taking liquorice tablets from the health shop which seem to be helping

Re: Soreness under sternum??

Hi NuttyTart,
This certainly sounds like Gerd. I have the same problem myself. I get symptoms on/off where just below my breast bone in the centre becomes really sore and gives me a knawing pain sensation along with lots of burping which I relate to my Hiatal-Hernia.
NSAIDs will most certainly cause Gerd in some people. I develpoed an Ulcer after being on them for one week (I will never take them again)...
An Endoscopy will show what the problem is, Ive had four and they are no trouble.
If you have one just ask for maximum sedation and you wont know a thing about it and no after effects.
All the best,

Solofelix.
