how often do u get dilation done yourself ?

i got mine done 5 months ago and it feels tight again when i swallow food. i had a few nights where i forgot the nightly pepcid and i woke up a few times with a real tightness in one spot. so i just wonder about others experience on this. thanks for any comments. just wondering if its just me or what. bc it seems like i am having to go back in rather quickly again. i also have severe food allergies and was still eating what ever it was that made me have a reaction in my throat. i need to get the allergy tests done asap but have been unable to go and get them done. will try to do them next month after having had my allergy shots for awhile, bc i have to go completely off of my allergy pills for the test and cant do that right now. so i have to build up on my shots before i can go to do the tests.

Re: how often do u get dilation done yourself ?

Hi there! This is my first post and I wish someone with more dilation history would answer too. I had my first dilation done 9 months ago. I weaned off the prilosec soon after, but started having swallowing troubles again a few months ago. I had suffered with heartburn and swallowing trouble for a year without seeking treatment until I had meat get lodged in my esophagus which ended in an e.r. visit. I was diagnosed with gerd, hiatal hernia, schatzki's ring, and eosinophilic esophagitis. I had food allergy testing over 18 years ago and am supposed to get it done again, but finances don't allow that yet.
Sorry for using your post as my introduction.
Hope you get some answers soon!

i am so sorry you had to go to the ER. that is so scary when the food gets stuck. i used to have that happen to me often. after having it dilated i dont have it happen but it is starting to feel a little tight again.

Re: how often do u get dilation done yourself ?

Sorry for the slow response! You have a lot going on, hope things start going better for you asap. I can only remember being allergic to corn and wheat...a few others too but its been too long. All food allergies were mild and since I didn't have any symptoms or gastro issues then they just advised me to keep an eye on it. I am allergic to all trees, grasses, molds, and all animals but rats and roaches! yuck lol I did allergy shots for 7 years and they did help greatly. It stinks having to go off of all medication to get tested but its worth it...hopefully fall isn't your worst season.
I need to contact my GI and see if starting the prilosec again will help with the tightness in my throat and chest. After the dilation I could swallow better than ever, started taking my vitamins again and now even the smallest pill feels like it scratches. I hate taking medication though so I've just kept dealing with it. I know in the long run allergy testing is cheaper than another dilation.

Hugs and prayers to you too! Do you have another dilation scheduled?

Re: how often do u get dilation done yourself ?

no not yet, i want to have the allergy test's done first. then i will see what i am allergic to and go from there. i do need prob. to have the dilation done again but for now as long as i am careful and eat small bites i think i am ok at the moment. but i do notice more tightness than normal for sure. so eventually i guess i do need it done again. after the last dilation i had i was swallowing good also. see if you have a thing like a low income clinic etc in your area. we in denver have mcpn offices. they help us to find a dr that takes medicaid for example. they help low income ppl a lot.

Re: how often do u get dilation done yourself ?

Good plan. I know my GI would probably demand the allergy testing since he requested me get it done right after the dilation in January. Thanks for info but I am lucky to have decent insurance its just the specialists copay and deductible is so high. Once we get my husband and sons health in check then maybe it'll be my turn!
