| Nissen to Toupet fundoplication?
I had a Nissen fundoplication done in 2007 and it has been working fairly well (minus a couple of surgeries since for large paraesophageal hernias). I've started having problems the past few months with food and liquids getting stuck in my esophagus, though. My manometry was normal and the upper GI series I had a month after an EDG with dilatation still showed the pill and the liquids getting stuck. The plan is to convert my Nissen to a Toupet wrap because they think that my wrap has shifted and is putting pressure on my esophagus (since things are getting stuck at my LES). It's the fourth surgery on this area (the initial Nissen/hiatal hernia repair and 2 subsequent paraesophageal hernia repairs) which my surgeon said is somewhat uncharted area for them. I'm really hoping that the Toupet will be successful at allowing me to swallow - AND keeping my GERD under control. Does anyone have a Toupet wrap or have you had a conversion from a Nissen to a partial wrap? Any advice or thoughts?
Thanks!!
