Best time to take your PPI?

Can anyone tell my when it's best to take your PPI? I'm on 30mg twice a day of Lansoprazole. Is it better to take 60mg once, or a split dose? Is there a better time to take it? For example I read somewhere that a PPI works better on an empty stomach. Thanks.

Re: Best time to take your PPI?

I take mine early in the morning, about 40 mins before eating.
If you take two, my doctor told me to take one in the morning and one just before bed.

Re: Best time to take your PPI?

I just got a new script from the dr. for NEXIUM and it says to take 15 min before breakfast but mine is once a day. Cathy

Re: Best time to take your PPI?

I took a double dose of PPI's for years. I was on all of them over time. I found taking one about 1/2 hour prior to breakfast and one about 1/2 hour before supper or bedtime worked best for me. The evening dosage time really depends on when your symptoms are worst. If you need it most with meals, take it before supper. I had tons of problems while sleeping so I took mine before bedtime for the last couple years.

Eventually I moved to Dexilant. It is time release so I didn't have to worry about the twice per day dosages.

Re: Best time to take your PPI?

Splitting the doses (AM and PM) sounds the most reasonable to me, and is how I was always instructed by my doctor. This would seem to ensure a constant presence of the drug in your body.
