LPR subdued but not conquered

Hi everyone, I have had Lpr/Gerd now for about 10 years, but I suspect I've always had a mild case of it for 30 years or so. I believe stress and bad nutrition has contributed to my present state, and it is extremely difficult to control this condition. I started actively to treat is by going to several gastros and eventually I opted for a nissen fundiplication in 2006. It didnt eliminate the symptoms completely but I did improve overall. I still have to take meds and currently Im on omeprazole.I occasionally take a zantac when needed. I went to see Dr Jamie Koufman in NYC three times, and she confirmed that I have severe LPR and Gerd after some heavy duty testing. I havent gone back to her in 2 1/2 months because Im waiting to see what my insurance will pay..She is very expensive. I have been on the Reflux diet that she recommends and am turning into a cook, since you practically cannot eat any restaurant food thats out there. Its been very tough to stay on this diet, but it does seem to help a lot, and its taking forever for the acid burn to heal....Im amazed at how many people suffer from this dreaded disease, my worst symptom now seems to be in swallowing. I have to eat very slowly and carefully, my throat is very sensitive to acidic foods..I get the impression that these doctors keep experimenting on us which takes a very long time and is very frustrating..I dont seem to be able to trust ANY doctor any more and rely on my instincts. My next step is probably to try some probiotics since I've read dozens of threads that say it has helped...Good luck to everyone who suffers.....

I have not taken any medications and treat myself with Ginger drinks & probiotics. Ginger & probiotics help 100%. I do not suffer the way I used too - I function now. Apple Cider Vinegar is also awesome!

Re: LPR subdued but not conquered

Hi sealbeachluvr! Just wanted to ask you about your remedies. Ginger drinks? Do you make them or is it something you buy? Also what were your symptoms before? I don't get heartburn just chest pain, lump in throat feeling and some stomach pains. I wonder if this might help me.

Thanks for any advice!

Yolee
