I have been on tecta for acid reflux for a few months now, I have been experiencing joint pain and headaches and my massage therapist asked if I had started taking anything new in the past few months. Makes me wonder if it's the tecta making me feel like this.
Health Canada issued a warning last month on this drug and using it longer than 4-8 weeks, now I'm a bit worried that maybe I should be looking at taking another drug. I have a friend on prevacid and she said she has not had any side effects.
Anyone else experiencing joint pain and headaches and just a not well feeling taking tecta, and anyone taking prevacid, how has that worked for you.
Thanks for any replies.
I have similar side effects with Omeprazole, which is a different proton pump inhibitor. That also caused headaches, bone pain and general unwellness, amounst other things!
I have also tried Prevacid (lansoprazole) which also made me feel unwell but with slightly different side effects.
They can all cause side effects but different drugs effect people in different ways.

Been on tecta and Prevacid the tecta was on for 3-4weeks the first time then went on Prevacid that was bad I felt awful on it took it for about 3 months or so stopped takin that went to a diff doc she gave me 6 weeks of tecta took it didn't feel that bad the worst I think was when I stopped takin ppis all together which was end of August had rebound reflux badly for over a month almost two....there are a lot of ppis out there I'm sure one will help try natural things to help like dgl or mastic gum bee propolis papaya enzymes or diff digestive enzymes chamomile tea smaller meals etc

You are doing well now that you are not on PPIs anymore. Well done and hope this continues.
May I ask how long did you have to put up with reflux after weaning off PPIs to get to this stage?
My experience is all the PPI's have some kind of side effect. With Nexium I couldn't sleep and felt a little tense all the time, Omeprazole makes me dizzy when I stand up and a little achy. Tecta gave me the runs , I only took it for 5 days. I have been on Dexilant now for 4 months and am finding I get very itchy , started about a month in, pretty sure it is tied to the drug. I have now just switched back to Omeprazole to see if it goes away. Sucks taking this stuff !!
I had rebound for two months maybe a bit longer...i still do have reflux but not near as bad as I used to...i get occasional flare ups..i feel mostly due to stress..b/c i can eat the same stuff and some days it bothers me and some it doesnt..but all in all much better than a year ago.
It just takes time...
Good luck
