Re: Who has had gallbladder surgery?
So I read a few articles explaining that sometimes bile reflux, not acid reflux, is responsible for Barretts.
Probably it can also cause heartburn and esophagus pain in general. Unfortunately there is no way to treat this yet, and it doesn't respond to the usual acid-inhibiting drugs (because the cause is completely different). This type of reflux happens a lot more in people who have had gallbladder surgery because the bile is not stored in the gallbladder anymore.
Has anyone else noticed this connection? And, if you have Barretts, did you also your gallbladder removed?
The implication is that, if bile reflux is to blame, than taking PPIs etc. is a waste of money and not worth the side effects.
