For those trying to get off PPI's

I have been on nexium for many years and wanted to get off due to the long term health risks. I wanted to share with you a cheap and effective alternative to weaning yourself off. As you know if you go cold turkey than the acid reflux is tens times worse. I have been alternating for several weeks taking DGL (3) times a day every; other day, which is a chewable tablet. After about 3 or so weeks I was able to go every two days on DGL and now Its almost 4 or more days I have been off nexium without those severe side effects. Not only is DGL a good alternative but it coats the lining of your esophagus and aids in healing. I rarely have acid reflux. However, you still have to watch what you eat.

Best of luck.

Re: For those trying to get off PPI's

I think that not all people have acid rebound when go off PPIs. I have 2 friends who were on Nexium 40mg for a long time but they got off "cold turkey" all right - no rebound. I think they are lucky !!! I heard that about 40-50% (??) do have problem when get off PPIs.

That's amazing - people swear by DGL. I need to try it. Can you get it at just any health food store? Whole foods?

Yes, but I have no proof that it works. DGL is one of the many remedies I have used to no avail. Maybe it will work for you.

I have found DGL helpful, but by no means meant I could get off PPIs pain free.
