For those who have gone through either a Linx or Nissen F.

Hi All,

I'm sure I'm not alone when I talk about the emotional yo-yo that we GERD suffers go through. One week your body seems to be 'stable' from acid, and then other weeks you feel like you can't take it anymore and want to run into surgery.

This is such a debilitating disorder!

My question is: To those who have had either the Linx or the Nissen, can you swallow pills after the surgery? The reason I ask is that I take Vit d3 X 3 pills and my thyroid medicine every day and people have said that things (like rice and bread) can get stuck on top of the wrap?

Also, what is the Vegal Nerve damage do? If someone has this, what happens?

And finally, will you ever feel normal again? Like swallowing, drinking and partying with friends (Wine and beer)... so many questions...

I've had the wrap. It hasn't helped that much and I'm left with swallowing problems, that I didn't have before.

Re: For those who have gone through either a Linx or Nissen F.

I had the Nissen Fundoplication in 2008. I have no problems swallowing large pills.

I will say that I knew I wouldn't be able to have any solids directly after my surgery. I spoke to my pharmacist about what I could do about the medications I was on. At the time, I was taking 8 pills plus some inhalers. My pharmacist was able to compound ALL of my current pills so that I could take them in liquid form while I was healing. If you have a good compounding pharmacy near you, I'd recommend looking into that option prior to surgery if you choose to go that way.
